Description
Our 1888 Steinway C currently under renovation originally had one of two leg types shown here, which we would like to reinstall. To this end we would like to acquire a good original set, have a set reproduced based on an original template or get exact measurements/pics of an original for a wood carver to make replicas. Can anyone help us?

AB,
We recently restored a c in rosewood from '87.

we would be happy to share any photos you may need.
They were the ones with the wide thin capital.

We are supposed to make a visit to the piano itself soon.
we could take some measurements then

I realy encourage you to restore the original leg and console system. They make a strong architectural statement. and the system is very stable. The piano doesn't get wiggling when played.

Chraig,

Thanks for your offer! Yes, I would be interested in some pics of your Steinway C. I decided to go with Dennis Chupps for the exterior restoration since he had the correct old legs and consoles, which were so hard to find. He also can do nice more natural looking finishes, see inside pics of

What kind of wheels do you have, if any?

Chupp had originals!? wonderful good fortune. Steinway made a repro of this case style, and they got the proportions all wrong, a little like not quite understanding the classical order of acchitecture, and getting collums that look chubby. Of note, the extra consoles and shorter legs made for a very stable piano, with no real wobble, unlike modern spade legs. If you are having the action replaced, I would be interested in the old action parts.
