Although I play longer pieces now, I kept this one fresh since it's fun to play ... All the time this march rhythm is going on, pretending order and discipline, while there are really some subversive harmonic undercurrents tearing the order apart. |

Hal Leonard | | Instrument used: | Alesis QS8 [DP/synth] | | Recording method: | Recorded a midi file with Cakewalk Home Studio then played it back and recorded that through headphone-out to Goldwave s/w which converted it to mp3. | | Critical feedback wanted: | Yes | | Additional info: | Working my way through the standards, this is my anytime, anywhere piece. Per teacher, I worked on bringing out the melody, using more rubato. Ned Washington's lyrics The night is like a lovely tune Beware, my foolish heart How white, the ever constant moon Take care, my foolish heart
There's a line between love and fascination That's hard to see, on an evening such as this 'Cause they both give the very same sensation When you're lost in the magic of a kiss
His/Her lips, are much too close to mine Beware, my foolish heart But should our eager lips combine Then let the fire start
'Cause this time, it isn't fascination Or a dream that will fade and fall apart It's love this time, it's love my foolish heart My foolish heart |

It is a very well known church hymn overhere but I cannot remember the words/title. My sheetmusic only says: The rose (I don't think that is the original title). |

37[/b] | | | Performer's name: | Rosanna | | Experience: | 10 years (classical lessons) as a kid. June '07 - Restarted with no teacher. Jan. '08 - Started Piano Magic. | | Direct music link: | click to download | | Title of piece: | Shores of Tomorrow (translated from Chinese) | | Composer: | music: Koo Ga-Fei; lyrics: Yee Dat | | Source of music: | play-by-ear | | Instrument used: | Kawai CE200 Digital. | | Recording method: | Phone-out of piano to line-in of computer. Recorded using WaveMP3Editor freeware. | | Critical feedback wanted: | Yes | | Additional info: | This song is an extremely well-known Chinese "oldie". (Let me know if you know it.) It's a very sad but beautiful song. I have translated the lyrics, but somehow, something about its beauty is lost in translation.
Shores of Tomorrow (originally in Mandarin) "Listen quietly...my love, I will sing you a love song. [Verse]When you wake up in the morning, you won't find a trace of me. You will know that I have left you, and have gone far away. [Chorus]My love, don't blame me; My love, don't hate me. I have wanted to spend my whole life with you, but life proves to be too short. [Verse]When I close my eyes, your laughter forever echoes in my ears. Although I am far away, your love stays in my heart. [Chorus]My love, don't be sad; My love, don't despair. Remember our true love. We shall meet on the shores of tomorrow."
Sometimes when I stop to think about it, I am amazed that I can play this and a whole list of songs using my knowledge from Piano Magic. Before I started, I couldn't even play Happy Birthday without a score!
Finally thanks to Mahlzeit for "busting" me (you know what I mean), and to JohnFrank for nudging me to submit something to this rectial. I definitely would not have if it weren't for the two of you.
I hope you folks enjoy it. |

I didn't know what to play for the recital but this was playing on my computer so I sat down and figured out how to play it. It's fairly straightforward, fortunately. |

This is a piano cover of the song "Apologise" by "One Republic". I taught this to myself in 1 day from the tutorial on youtube , but it took about a week or so to iron out the kinks! There are a few errors in this recording, but I decided to just use the first take considering this is a recital. |

I first heard this piece on a Leif Ove Andsnes dvd and instantly loved it.
Firstly, I'm not too sure about pedalling on this piece. I know Bach music doesn't tend to use it, but I thought it sounded better with the pedal.
I also suffered from a *massive* case of 'Red Dot Fever' on the recording. The last minute are my pure nerves showing through! |

Its beautiful minimalism continues to mesmerize me. An interesting feature of the piece is that the vast majority of it occurs well below middle C, including an absolutely delightful stretch where you are doing a whole bunch of thundering octaves that include the very lowest A on the piano.
This piece was originally written to accompany the video "Everyday" by Noah Kalina, a popular YouTube video in which Noah took a photograph of himself everyday for six years. It is a surprisingly emotionally powerful video, and I encourage you to watch it (at the very least, it will let you hear what the piece is *supposed* to sound like!):

Last but not least, I must confess that this recording contains one edit. |

I am still learning! This time I purchased a new stereo mic and I hope this mic improves the sound quality somewhat.
I like this piece because the melody is peaceful and soothing. With Mothers Day approaching my thoughts were with my Mother who died when I was just a child. As a small child I played the piano briefly and my mother would never tire of hearing me play the same song over and over. When I play this song, I can often feel her right beside me smiling.
My many thanks go to my wonderful teacher for her hard work in making this utube video to go with this song I recorded for this recital. See the link above. |

Was much easier to get a recording this time than last recital! I play it twice through, trying to speed up the tempo a bit on the 2nd time pass. My teacher wants me to try to push the speed a little bit on this one. A lot of the Alfred's pieces have a lot of oom-pah-pah left hand, and I've tried to learn to tone it down a bit. Hopefully that "feature" of my playing doesn't come through too much. :-) |

I play it a bit slower than some are used to hearing it, nevertheless, remains a good two-step tempo. Not a perfect performance, and the parts I need to work on will only come with more experience. I will not be held responsible for spontaneous dancing when playing the mp3. |

I was able to try this on a harpsichord, which took quite a bit of time to get used to, but it was great fun. |

So sorry about the sound quality.
I did Amazing Grace to give me some book one closure. Would of loved to have offered a more sophisticated piece but I'm working hard on my Alfred method trying to finish it up.
Thanks for listening... |
