Hi everyone,

My name is Rich and I live in my weyr here in Colorado. (Ok, I only rent, but since I am obviously into dragons, I can imagine it is a weyr.)

I took piano lessons about 30 years ago. Then I hated practicing in front of others and so almost never progressed as far as I could. I gave it up to go to a private high school.

Back in July, I decided to give it a try again. I picked up some books and a cheap keyboard. A couple of mistakes there. I grew up learning from John Thompson's series, and Faber and Faber doesn't compare. Also the keyboard was not touch sensitive, let alone weighted. I quickly switched to the John Thompson books and bought a Casio PX310 as soon as I could aford to. While I would love an accoustic piano, I don't have enough space in my weyr for an upright, let alone a grand.

Sometime in October I started JT book 2. Soon after I started working on Christmas music with a teacher. I'm much happier with my current teacher than I was with the teacher I had as a kid.

Now I'm working on some easier pieces from the notebook for a m bach and trying to work from there.

That's where I am. I hope I can meet some friends here on this forum.

Rich

PS. The answer is 42. I knew you wouldn't like it. Deep Thought.

DragonPianoPlayer,

Welcome to the AB Forum.

I used John Thompson as a kid and thought they were great books.

Oh, and I can see you are a man who knows where his towel is.

wink

Welcome Rich!

Hey, I was originally taught from the John Thompson series, too!

And, like you, I had returned to "the piano" after 30+ years.

I chose to NOT go with a teacher (thus far) since the ones I'd interviewed only, "Do classical". As much as I love classical music I want to play other material NOW because I truly "live for the day". I was determined to "re"-figure it all out on my own... uh... which is WHAT led me to THIS forum. I get answers here to questions that I feel too "dumb" to ask.

Stick around, Rich! -- This forum is filled with fun-loving and good-hearted folks PLUS you'll be surprised how much you actually LEARN!

Welcome to the forum, DragonPianoPlayer. My daughter is into dragons in a big way, so I live in a weyr, too.

I'm glad to hear you have a teacher you're happy with. That will help immensely. smile

Thanks everyone.

Daria, one of the big pluses about my teacher is the fact that he has played in a Jazz band, so he knows how to play from lead sheets. He was very enthusiastic about working with me and the lessons have been very good so far.

Cminor, I totally understand. I cannot wear my contacts when I am playing and I have to have very good lighting to see right. I might talk to my eye doctor about a pair of piano glasses when I go this year. LOL

Mel, I never go anywhere without it.

Rich
