Being the cheap Bastard that I am, I searched the surface of the globe to find the best deal on a matched pair of high quality microphones for recording a piano (acoustic or grand)

I spoke with bob Muir, and he suggested getting a matched pair of Rode NT5 mics.

After searching e-bay for weeks, the cheapest price was not much under $400 for the pair.

I worked out a deal with Dwight at BPM Muisc to purchase these new in case mics @ $299.00 for the pair, including FREE shipping!!. If you ask for him, he will honor that price for all ABF members! (its about a $100.00 savings over anywhere!!)

I ordered my pair today (along with very good cables and a Behringer UB807 or something 4-channel mixer (for phantom power). The mixer costs around $50.00 and the cables were $12.50 each.

You can each Dwight @ 1-800-371-7036.

Hope this helps any cheapo's like me who are still on the fence looking for a great deal!!

Yea Bob, I still even order off the dollar menu at Mcdonalds!!. Instead of buying a medium drink for $1.50, I just order the small for a buck and refill it!!. I mean, how cheap is that!!

This method is not really working out to good lately however, as the temperature has been around 114*. Thats like around 16 re-fills!! :p

That was one thing I never understood about life in America. Why would anyone pay for a bucket of refillable juice, when you could buy a smaller cup and get the same amount of juice?

I don't think that's called 'being cheap' - I would say that's being 'thrifty'.

Being cheap would be trying to smuggle an old cup back into the restaurant so you don't have to even buy a new cup \:\)

But nice job on the microphones - looking forward to hearing 'BB'.

I've never refilled a drink at McD's! Am I the only one? Maybe because I worked there for 3.5 years, starting at $2.50/hour...

I read somewhere that some wealthy woman would get salt, sugar, and pepper from restaurant packets and never buy any. She probably had a nice piano too \:D !

You aren't alone! I never buy the small drink. I almost always get McDonald's to go, so I wouldn't be able to refill my small drink. However, even when I eat in, I don't get the small.

I guess that's why I will always be poor, I don't even think about stealing the salt, pepper, etc. \:D

Hello Mr.Hunky. How are those Rode NT5 mics workin' out? I'm thinking of picking up a pair. Also, what recording equipment do you use? Laptop, DAT recorder, etc... I'm basically looking for a complete recording system that's not too expensive.

Cheers.

Chopin952:

My new Rode nt5 mics work fantastic, but my recordings don't sound so good!

I have a pair of rode NT5 mics, a Behringer mixer (also very good and inexpensive), but I think my computers sound card is the week link.

Bob Muir is the expert to ask on that. Maybe he will post up what computer sound cards that he feels is a good deal and also good quality.

I need to get a new one as my recordings right now sound much better on the digital!!

I'm sure this will be corrected once I get a descent card on my computer. I'd sure hate to think that the week link was the new piano; or even worse,......the performer!!

The sound card with the best bang for the buck, IMO is the M Audio Audiophile 2496. It's what I used to record my LPs to CD and it's also what I use to record my keyboard and record/playback midi files.

For less than $90 over the Internet, it's a great buy!
