#101115 - 02/23/08 05:13 PM Yamaha C1 Pricing?

I'm in the market for a new piano for my 2 sons, both of whom are fairly accomplished players (rock, standards, show tunes, classical). We've had a Yamaha upright for 10 years and are ready for a grand, but have limited space. So...we're pretty sure we're going to get a Yamaha C1. Any idea how much these should go for new? I was quoted $20,245 (retail $26,895). It sounds high to me, but what do I know? (The GC1 was quoted at $16,475, which also seems high.) Does anyone have any recent pricing experience? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Hello jmvoc,
It sounds as though the prices you got were about 20% too high.
I would continue shopping. If you tell the dealer that you will sell your own piano to a friend, maybe they will cut the price more. Dealers sometime keep money in a deal to absorb some of the over-allowance on your trade, like a car-dealer.
You are always better off liquidating your own piano. You'll get probably 3/4s of what a dealer will get for it when they sell it, but then you can talk turkey with-out any unknown trade in at home.
Good Luck
John

Hi jmvoc,

I believe that you should be able to do quite a bit better on the price,...

FYI,... My friend just purchased a brand new Yamaha GC1 for $11,000 + tax - this includes delivery (50 miles away), an artist bench and a free tuning.

I went to the same dealer a few months ago while I was shopping and the initial price that I received was ~ $13k,...

Regards,

Robert
