I am not familiar with Scriabin's work and was wondering what anyone would recommend as a good starting work? I am an intermediate pianist.

if you post this in 'pianist corner', i am sure you will get answers. most beginners here have no idea of Scriabin anyway.

Check out the 24 preludes in Opus 11. Some of these are sweet and not too difficult.

If you are a good intermediate pianist, you might take a look at his Etude in C# Minor Op 2 N0 1. It is one of the two Etudes that Horowitz always used to put on a lot of his programs. The other one is the D# minor which I wouldn't recommend. It's really difficult and requires a pro.

The C# Minor one is slow and with a bit of practice an intermediate level pianist(in my opinion) shouldn't have too much of a problem.
It's three pages long, one of his most popular pieces, it's dramatic and you'll have a lot of fun with it.

If you can handle that one, next look into his Nocturne for the Left Hand Alone Op 9 No 2. It's also a very beautiful piece and the most difficult part is a short, very tricky cadenza at the end of the second page.

My suggestion would be to look at the score in a music store, and if you think you can handle it, buy it --- if not, then let it go. That's what I always do.

Good luck.

Prelude Op. 22 No. 3 in B major. It must be easy because I played it after three years of lessons! There were some fingering challenges - a couple of measures have a fingering on every note. It's a beautiful piece.
