I'd love to be able to practice 2-3 hours a day, but reality is I have two young daughters and I'm grateful to just get one hour! I figure, one hour is better than nothing, so I keep plugging along. Maybe when they're bigger I'll get a bit more practice time in.

Not enough!
I have my alarm set for 6AM with the intention I will get up and practice in the morning before work. (I would like to get 1/2 to 1 hour in the morning and another hour after work).
So.... I after sleep throught the alarm for about 2 hours I get up and vow I will go to bed early so I can get up at 6 the next day and practice....

I practice 1 hr/day during the week and up to 2 hrs/ day on the weekends. I'd LOVE to do more but I work full time and have other pressing commitments.

3 - 5 hours, not that you'd know it. My only child is grown. I have a job and a piano.

I'm in grade 4 and I practice for an hour a day, and I thought that was a lot... am I the only one surprised by how much everyone practices?

Hmmm...for a while I was able to get 90 minutes a day, right now I'm lucky if I get an hour a day.

I would say about 1 to 1 1/2 hours during the week, and a little longer on the weekends, with the occasional day off here and there.

I try for an hour a day, but it's hard to actually get in that much time every day, with those pesky kids always wanting something or other. Some days I only 15 minutes. I try to practice a little longer on the weekends.
bijou, I was a little surprised myself, but this is a self-selected group, so I'm sure it's hardly representative. I think an hour a day for most adults is an accomplishment. The most important thing is to practice every day, or nearly so, however much time you are able to get in.

2-3 hours, which seems to be surprisingly common. I, however, don't have a job like the decent people on this board, and instead loll around the house in my skivvys most of the day only leaving the couch to eat bonbons and plunk out racket on my piano.

I'm not really sure anymore. Probably an hour or 1.25 on weekdays and more on weekends. Schedule permitting, I play early in the morning and then again after work. On weekends, I may sit down at the piano four or five times in the course of the day. My goal is progress, not time. I usually work at small sections of a piece (a couple of lines or, in the case of challenging bits, a measure or two) over and over and over and over. And over. (It is well that I have a digital piano and headphones.) I stop if I start to feel stale.

My hat's off to y'all. I'm lucky to get 45 minutes.
My day yesterday:
6:00 Wake up. 7:03 Out the door with my daughters to the bus stop. 7:12 Leave bus stop for work. 7:50 Arrive at work. 5:15 Leave work. 6:00 Arrive home, start eating dinner. 6:20 Take older daughter to her lesson. 7:10 Arrive home, start practice. 7:35 Younger daughter comes in the piano room, starts banging on the electronic keyboard. (This does wonders for teaching me to concentrate) 7:45 Older daughter comes in, kicks me off the piano. I take the younger one upstairs to get her ready for bed. 8:10 She's in bed, take dog for walk. 8:30 Return from walk, take older daughter up to bed. 8:40 Begin collecting trash and recyclables. 9:00 Finish with trash, check in on internet message boards. 9:15 Check Christmas gift inventory to see if it fills stockings. 9:40 Enter credit card receipts in Quicken and reconcile credit card statements. 10:05 Take dog out one last time. 10:15 Turn off Christmas lights, head to bed.
They're not always this busy, Tuesday I got in 50 uninterrupted minutes.

On a good day when the wife and kids are not demanding, I manage 90 minutes. On other days maybe only 15-30 minutes. I try to get on the piano daily no matter how short the time. I'm still trying to cement my bass clef reading and the daily exercise helps.

FormerFF: Your day sounds as busy as mine! If I get everything I need to get done in one day, I'm not in bed until 11:30 pm. I don't get much sleep during the week. Today I have the day off - thankfully - so I'm off to practice the piano now.
