I'm keen to start working on some John Lennon piano pieces. I was amazed at how easy his song 'Love' is to play.

I brought it along to last nights lesson and my teacher demonstrated and assured me that it was within my ability.

When he went through the piece from my John Lennon songbook I was amazed at how easy it was to play. It amazes me that music looks so much more complicated in written form than played.

Anyone know of other similar and effective Lennon pieces I should consider?

Hi Ragtime,

What about "Why Don't We Do it in the Road?" I kid. Actually, "Jealous Guy" (I think that's the name of the piece) might work out well for piano as well as the infamous "Imagine."

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but how about "Grow Old With Me"

Hi Ragtime Clown,

does your John Lennon songbook containt note for note transcriptions or arrangements for solo piano (so that you also play the melody with right hand)?

Astra, the songbook features fairly close transcriptions but I would imagine not exactly what John played. In the case of the song 'Love' that I have almost mastered, it is very good.

I have no desire to play right-hand melody on songs that were never recorded that way.

Imagine is simple, immediately recognizable and one of his best.

I would also suggest anything from the Lennon/Mc Cartney/Beatles songbook. There are tons of beginner and intermediate books full of their most popular songs that you will likely enjoy. "Yesterday", "In My Life", "Let it Bet" and "Hey Jude" are all great and work well on piano.
