I have a question . I have been playing for 7-months and I was wondering if anyone has any opinion (or suggestions for certain pieces)on what would be required learned pieces for Level 1 or Elementary Level before moving on to Level 2? I mainly like classical music and some new age. Oh, and I dont plan on moving into level 2 soon I was just looking for some pieces to concentrate on that would benefit my level of playing. Thank You and Happy Thanksgiving, KaylaX

No problem, I am just reposting what I've already been given! It's not from me, so no thanks are really necessary.
If I may ask, what series are you working Grade 1 pieces on? I'm sure you could handle the earlier Grade 2 pieces, and advancing is probably best for your progress...
Best of luck!

If I may ask, what series are you working Grade 1 pieces on? Im not sure I understand your question. But if you are wondering what lesson book im working out of. It is "Faber and Faber Adult piano adventures all in one Level 1" and my other book is Alfreds Greatest Hits Level 1. But my teacher seems to think I can do Level 2 pieces. Im thinking that Id like to stay Level 1 a bit more and work on some pieces that are well known and that will enhance my level 1 playing ability befor I move on. Thats All

It seemed that you were using a Grade method series, but you are using Faber's (like me!). Ignore my comment from earlier

KaylaX,
Try looking at some of the collections like "Succeeding with the Masters" and the "Festival Collection". These are graded, so it's easy to pick one out that's at the right level for you. The "Beautiful Etudes" series has a good collection of pieces in it and is also graded. A number of composers also wrote collections for children. While many of these are closer to grade 3, it's worth checking them out for simpler pieces. For instance, there's a beautiful waltz in Shostakovich's collection of pieces for children that I think would be within your grasp. Gurlitt, Bartok, Kabalevsky, and others wrote many pieces for beginning pianists.

Hi KaylaX, I'm working through Keith Snell Piano Repertoire collection. This starts at preparatory and works up through (what he grades as) level 10. This is not the only series, and it has it's disadvantages, but it does give you a very thorough collection of pieces that are very close in level. The series consists of the following books at each level: Baroque & Classical Romantic & 20th Century Etudes There is also a CD available separately. Here is a guide that gives every piece in each level: http://www.kjos.com/pdf/brochures/snell_reper_index.pdf You could pick up the preparatory level or level one without any problems. The thing that I like about this set is that there are a lot of pieces in each level and they are all pretty close to the same difficulty. The editing is not the best, I do find an occasional wrong note, and I have to add my own fingering at the level that I am at. Keith Snell has also come out with Essential Piano Repertoire of the 17th, 18th, & 19th Centuries. This series takes only part of the pieces in the other series. It also does not include any of the 20th century composers. Besides the series that Donna were mentioning, there is also The Developing Artist series. The preparatory book in this series would be at about your level. Rich

very very good input. Thank you all very much.
Donna, I actually have "succeeding with the masters" baroque era book1. Its a little over my head. And "The festival collection" is actually on my want list at sheet music plus. Thank you for the suggestion on the others.
DragonPianoPlayer, I have been eyeballing Keith Snell. Its does look like they have a very good selection. I like the idea that their are allot of pieces at the same level. I will add that to my wish list too.
II, Are you using Faber and Fabers all in one??? And of so what page are you on?? and do you like it???
Thank you everyone who posted their ideas.

No, not yet! I am going along with my brother's F&F Piano Adventures for the Late Beginner, but I plan to begin The Adult All-in-One concurrently with Alfred's Adult All-in-One. I can also second the Keith Snell series--they look great in the store and seem like they are progressive. I wouldn't realize a wrong note when I see it though... You can also look at more series that DPP mentioned in my old thread: http://www.pianoworld.com/ubb/ubb/ultimatebb.php?/topic/32/7505.html
