It says on the back of the Alfred's Adult Basic Piano Couse, Book 1 "When student has completed this course, they will be able to perform the great piano masterworks"

If you've finished this book, do you think you can perform the 'Great Piano Masterworks?"

LOL. I just can't fathom what those are. Do they mean Beethoven and Bach?

Just wondering!

Thanks!

Hi Heather,

It's good to see someone else from Colorado on the forums.

I basically take it as meaning that you don't need a method book any more and are ready to start working through classical repertoire. It doesn't mean that you are ready to play Chopin Etudes, Liszt' Hungarian Rhapsodies, or Rachmaninoff's Piano Concertos.

Alfred has a whole series of sheet music called Masterworks. Maybe they are referring to this series. I finished Alfred Three and had a difficult time finding pieces at my level that were approachable. Also my teacher at that time didn't really know what to do with me. We eventually settled on the Keith Snell graded rep series.

pp or Rich - any approx. idea at what level the Keith Snell rep series would pick up from the end of Alfred 3, for example the Baroque & Classical series? Level 4 or 5 maybe?

Regards, JF

John Frank,

The Bach Prelude, Fur Elise, and the Chopin Prelude from the Ambitious Section are in Level 5 of the Keith Snell books.

So if you want to do additional pieces before tackling the Ambitious Section, I would say Level 4 of the Keith Snell books would be great. If you want more pieces at the level of the Ambitious Section, then go to Level 5.

Rich
