I remember reading a letter in Pianist Magazine about this topic. The Chopin piece and the Burgmüller one was mentioned. I'll try to find it and see what the others were. This was for a student who was a grade 3 or 4 if I remember correctly.

For beginners, Night Song from Alfred's Book II sounds harder than what it really is and was fun learning.

I agree. Apart from one crazy stretch it's REALLY manageable and very beautiful. But... does it sound tough? I wonder.

Thanks Strat. It's actually the viewable page they give you from Sheet Music Plus not sure if it makes a difference since they do let you view that first page. I'm not all up and up and the legality of stuff. Let me know and I'll post a link instead although it would take away some of the impact.

Unfortunately, I seem to have knack for finding the ones that sound easy but are, in fact, difficult (for me).

I think the term 'easy' means something much different to someone who has been studying for three years, versus the person who has been studying for three weeks.

By that token, I'd say most topics are subjective and are very rarely factual.

This was in his list. I'll definitely learn this one but my favourite of the list is op 28 no 4.

Concerning the images. It is not a copyright violation as it comes under "fair-use". It is clearly for illustrative purposes and isn't any more than sheetmusic vendors are allowed to show too. They must comply also so whatever they can do is a good guide.

Back to the original question: pieces that are easier than they sound... Certainly not a beginner piece, but way easier than it sounds is Rach's C# minor prelude from fantasy pieces. The agitato part sounds way fast and complicated, while in fact there are no large jumps and all the notes fit nicely under small hands. The wide slow chords can be rearranged and are very easy to play (even my 7-year old can do it )...
