In the past, a couple of my adult friends put their kids in piano lessons thinking they would learn along with them, for free. It never worked, of course.
My daughter and I started taking piano lessons in September, from the same teacher. She started in book 1, I in book 3 as I have considerable musical experience, just not in piano.
I've been telling her kids learn faster, and she would probably pass me around Christmas. She didn't believe me of course, and I am practicing almost exactly 4 times as long as she.
Last night I heard her playing a two handed scale almost twice as fast as I can. She has passed me in a month, not four as I predicted, at least for one small element of technique. Interestingly hands together anything is my biggest frustration, but she doesn't seem to have noticed it is hard.

Kids learn much faster. It can be downright frustrating. I think adults have it easier reading music when they start though. But, then kids pass them.

Yes exactly, at the very beginning around 2 mths ago I was inspired to learn playing piano after attending a church concert. I bought a cd online and pick up from the very basic like finding keys etc etc ... My daughter was sitting just beside me and at that time I noticed that she understand quite well. I slowly discover that she shows keen interest in music and I finally decided to get her a teacher and just one month .. she has bypass me so much that she can read and play those simple songs much better than me. I cant even do the counting whilst she can. I was telling this teacher that I am lacking behind and she says "Wouldn't it be nice if you daughter play better than YOU !" Yeah the answer just hit my mind that it's so good to know that my daughter is progressing well but at the same time telling myself that I need to work harder So ... I am getting my teacher soon ... Cheers ...
