Monica- just a note to you: When people ask if you play any other instruments besides piano, I don't want to see any more of that ducking head, hiding behind hands, barely whispering: accordion...

We went to see Vital Information last nite. Jazz group: Steve Smith (drums), Baron Brown (bass), Frank Gambale (guitar) and Tom Coster (keys). Not only are they amazing as a group, but Tom Coster is just incredible! AND he hauled out his accoridon for not 1, not 2 but THREE songs, including one he wrote when he used to play with Santana back in the 70's! So now you just stand up there nice and tall and say, loudly: I play ACCORDION, just like Tom Coster!!! LOL

Thanks, IrishMak. Obviously I need to join a support group for former accordion players: "Hi, my name is Monica, and I play the accordion." It is too bad that the accordion has such a bum rap, but a bum rap it does indeed have. Did you see the joke somebody posted in the pianist corner? "Q: What's the definition of perfect pitch? A: When you throw an accordion in a dumpster and it hits a banjo." har har.

Just a word of support for accordian players. The first day I moved to university, I was expecting a loud corridor full of electric guitars and stereos.

Then, as I got near my room, there was a chap two doors down playing cool Scottish music on his accordian. I actually remember thinking to myself "i dont care how loud or what time of day he plays that instrument, because it is so nice to listen to".

(incidentally, we had 2 electric guitarists, an acoustic player, a singer, and an accordian player in our corridor!).

She is an ELECTRIC accordion player!

Oh, and the accordion is electric too. \:D

That's right; Euan's assessment of his dormmate might have been very different had that been AMPLIFIED Scottish music... \:D

Hey Funburger.

You're little toy man looks like he's from an antique show. Good for you to rescue him and give him another shot at life - otherwise someone who may not "appreciate" such a find, would dump him in the trash.

Good going, Funburger! You saved his little soul!

Wow, Funburger, thanks so much. The greatest thing about playing music, for me, is to be able to non-verbally communicate to someone else what I am feeling at that moment. What better instrument to do that on than the piano? Glad you liked them.
Happy Holiday.

Thanks!

Sadly, on the top there are two hair line scratches from our cat, and on the key cover there's a knick. Out cat liked to climb on top of it and one time he tried to get down but scratched it, and knocked off a picture which caused the knick.

Needless to say, we got his claws removed, and nothing can be back on top of the piano. :-p

Fat and happy \:\)

He liked to get ontop of it because it was infront of a large window looking out upon our street, so we moved the couch there and the piano elsewhere.

There was no use in punishing me, because we were at work/school when it happened.

I never really considered posting a picture of myself here (or anywhere else for that matter) but I am considering a picture of my old Yamaha and keyboard setup with maybe my Shihtzu on the bench if he'll hold still long enough. I'll talk it over with him.

You people are intimidatingly good looking.

:D

Yup, a real, ORIGINAL(right down to the 84 year-old rubberized cloth) player piano. Those pedals, when pumped vigorously and rapidly(resulting in acute aerobic stress), produce halting, incomplete music(due to a few scattered pneumatics, one of which is missing completely, which are so stiff and/or leaky they no longer compress, resulting in unplayed notes).

In English: The player action has never been rebuilt. As a result, it has numerous air leaks, plus one pneumatic got torn off the stack. We got it when I was in high school, and at the time I replaced the tracker bar tubing with aquarium air tubing, and it played reasonably well for quite a few years. It is in dire need of player action rebuilding, and it will happen, but fortunately the regular piano action, strings, pinblock, etc, are in superb condition, so it functions quite well as a piano.

Our daughter is now 20 months old, and is enchanted by it, especially the player, so we will definitely commence rebuilding soon.

Incidentally, Mr. S.H., are you a native desert rat? I was born and raised in Avondale, and this piano was bought in Scottsdale from a private party back in the mid 70's.

Here's an enlargement of my avatar. It's me(on the left) singing in the San Diego Opera's 2000 production of Lohengrin, along with some of the boys.

You may recognize them....
