This was indeed a very gratifying, liberating, and empowering experience and an important psychological barrier crossed for me. And if I can do it, so can all of you. [Smile]
Just catching up on the thread. Congrats Monica! Sounds like a nerve-racking experience. eek I can sympathize with seeing a nice piano and wanting to play it. However, I certainly wouldn't have the nerves to play in a public place like that. Way to go! thumb I'm sure your playing was alot better than what the staff was use to hearing too!

I started playing my recital piece from memory after church a couple Sundays ago. I thought almost everybody had left and when I got 30 seconds into it I started to hear the high keys tinkling. I look down and a little boy (2yo) from the church was pressing the keys. I looked up and there were his parents with about 7-8 other people standing listening. I got all flustered and ruined the piece. That was in front of people I know!

So I can appreciate the guts it takes. I don't know if everyone can do it. There is definitely alot of mental roadblocks to break through depending upon how introverted you are.
Congrats again! smile

Hi Monica:

Just got back in town and read your post.

I, like you, once jumped on a grand and started playing it in a casino lobby. I have absolutely NO inhibitions and just started going through my "playlist".

I'm not really sure how to take this, but after about only 3-minutes, I was asked by casino security to STOP playing!! [ever heard an ego get popped like a balloon??!]

They told me that the piano was privately owned by the lounge performer and that no-one (no exceptions), was to play on it.

At least this made me feel a little better, but, slithering away in front of everyone kinda reminded me of that Southwest Airlines commercial, you know the one where something super-embarrassing happens and then the guy sais "wanna get away"?? !!

Monica, remember that thread a long time ago when you had challenged everyone to play for someone else to brush up on our skills---well you made your own challenge!!!!hooray!!! i also did this when someone had come over and wanted me to play for them, i was like no---but i was coaxed and they asked me for lessons eek i was like i have only been playing three months. anyhow, i just wanted to say thank-you for sharing your experience, it sounds way cool and am sooo jealous!!! way to go Monica!!!! yippie

Way to go Monica! Hope you are enjoying Long Beach. The Queem Mary tour is worth doing and they might have a piano aboard.

Have a nice day

Sure! that lounge performer is the only person knows how to operate a piano properly. Which casino were you at, SH?
