I had my first lesson yesterday. It went really well. We went over posture and we worked on a couple of exercises. Then she had me sight read. EEEKK! That is my weakest point AND I usually can't do it in front of people especially my teacher. But, I did it. She said I read much better than I think I do and I play better than she originally thought. YAY! She's very relaxed and seems really excited to be teaching. That makes a huge difference compared to other teachers I've had. She played three Bach songs (she loves Bach) for me to choose from to work on my sight reading. I liked them all so it was hard to choose. One I thought might be a little too difficult to start with another I already knew it (or at least most of it). So, I picked the one in the middle. It's nice to be starting out with Bach instead the songs like Through the Valley and Over the Hills-LOL Big thanks to everyone at PW. I was your stories and advice that helped me find a good teacher.

[/b] Kymber - nice to hear you found soneone who appears to be a good fit for you as a teacher But, exactly what do you have against "Through the Valley and Over the Hills" - it's a great standard with hidden treasures that I play every day as a warmup. Regards (and currently working on "Over the River and Through the Woods" - just in time for the holidays), JF

"But, exactly what do you have against Through the Valley and Over the Hills" Nothing- I was just being a smart a$$. Is there really a song by that name-co's I was just making that up. Seriously though- I do have an appreciation for those songs (and all music for that matter). And some of them are nice songs. I was just getting tired of that being my only option

[/b] Not that I know of - but if you'll do the lyrics I'll come up with an irresistable melody for it Good luck with the new teacher Regards, JF

YOUR FIRST LESSON. That is great! We know from your previous posts that there was a 1.5 mile walk involved with one of you teaching options.
It is cold and raining in North Carolina today, PLEASE..... tell us you worked the walk thing out.

Thanks everyone!! Ivory Dreams- funny thing is this teacher is farther away from the other one. But, there's a bus that takes me close enough. That other teacher's rules and policies were so strict and rigid it made me tense before I even went for my trial lesson. I decided to take note of that feeling and didn't even waste my time (or hers) and cancelled. The other thing that bothered me about her was that she wanted students to sign a waiver so her or her roomates would not be held responsible for any loss damage etc etc. Why should I sign that? As far as I'm concerned if I get hurt or my personal belongings are damaged at the fault of the roomates - better be sure I would hold them responsible. Thanks again

That is all good news, Kymber. I hope the lessons go well. My own weekly lesson was today, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
I can't believe I waited all these years to do something so wonderful. We deserve this.
