Title of piece:Reverie
Composer:Claude Debussy
Source of music:Debussy Selected Works for Piano
By Keith Snell. Piano. Neil A. Kjos Master Composer Library. Music Book. Published by Neil A. Kjos Music Company. (GP380)
Instrument used:Charles Walter 1520
Recording method:Zoom H4, Normalized in Audacity.
Critical feedback wanted:Yes
Additional info:This was a piece my mom used to play when I was a child, although she never knew the whole thing. I like to think she would have been happy that I learned it.

I intended to submit this for the last recital, but I didn't have it memorized yet and it just didn't come together.

Lunch? Butternut squash ravioli with veggies and tomato sauce.

Title of piece:Sonata in D major, Allegro Molto, Op. 6 (piano duet)
Composer:Beethoven
Source of music:Sheet Music
Instrument used:M&H grand in my teacher's studio
Recording method:Garage Band, built-in microphone, converted to MP3 in iTunes
Critical feedback wanted:Yes
Additional info:This is a duet with my teacher, Katie. We are going to perform this in a "live" recital in December. I'm playing Primo, so pretty much all the notes higher than middle C are mine. Just a note - this was our third try at recording this during my lesson today and it was reassuring that even my teacher can get "red dot" nerves. We're still working on it, so I appreciate the feedback.

Title of piece:Chopin Prelude Op 28,7
Composer:Chopin
Source of music:Sheet music
Instrument used:Clavinova CVP-301
Recording method:Internally saved in the Clavinova (midi). Played back to the line inputs of Zoom H4. Normalized and converted the .wav file to .mp3, all entirely with the Zoom. (The latest Zoom firmware has these new features.)
Critical feedback wanted:Yes
Additional info:The trickiest parts were getting the jumpy rhythm right and
avoiding ragged chords. A fairly simple piece, but I enjoy playing it.

For lunch, I had a sardine, tomato and lettuce sandwich.

Title of piece:Rachmaninoff Prelude in C# minor
Composer:Sergei Rachmaninoff
Source of music:Sheet Music
Instrument used:Yamaha UX3
Recording method:Audacity on my work laptop
Critical feedback wanted:Yes
Additional info:I heard someone else play this last fall and immediately put it on my wish list. I started in the winter but had to put it on hold because of forearm pain. There are some sections of this piece where there are so many notes that it had to be written on four staves instead of two, so this contributes to the strain. After ten months of playing this, I still love this piece, so it's going in my permanent repertoire.

Title of piece:Horizon Variations
Composer:Max Richter
Source of music:Sheet Music
Instrument used:Yamaha ydp-113
Recording method:MIDI into PC with Ivory software
Critical feedback wanted:Yes
Additional info:I thought I should try a piece by one of my favourite musicians, the Scottish-based composer Max Richter.
Definitely the hardest part of this piece is trying to make a single note within a chord ring out – a new technique for me.
The original has an electronic intro instead of piano, and I played the second half a little different.

Composer:W. A. Mozart
Source of music:Kalmus edition
Instrument used:Grotrian 192
Recording method:Zoom H4 connected to AKG microphones
Critical feedback wanted:Yes
Additional info:This sonata is Mozart starting to evolve into Beethoven. It is very dark and moody! Sorry for the slips. I'm determined to improve the recording by eliminating the slips, the occasional rushing, and a few interpretive issues (I played some chords detached that should have been legato)

Title of piece:Bach's Invention no. 14

Recording method:My little mp3 player. Leaves much to be desired but at least it's something!
Critical feedback wanted:Yes
Additional info:This is a short, relatively easy piece that I have recorded. I am working on Bach's inventions to strengthen my left hand due to back injury. There are some dropped notes, wrong notes and rhythm difficulty due to left hand weakness but it is so much better than when I started in Sept.

Title of piece:Homesickness Lyric Pieces Op. 57 Nr. 6
Composer:Edvard Grieg
Source of music:Sheet music
Instrument used:Yamaha C7
Recording method:Recorded using Zoom H4, normalized with Audacity
Critical feedback wanted:No
Additional info:This was a difficult one for me because playing with both hands in the upper register of the piano (as required by the middle section) is very hard with a neck brace so I wasn't able to practice that section much and it shows. Nevertheless, I wanted to honor the 100th anniversary of Grieg's death by recording one of his beautiful lyric pieces and I also didn't want to miss the recital! I hope you enjoy it.

Additional info:Needs much work and not even close to being polished, but I did not want to miss 3 recitals in a row. Of course I practically nailed it as soon as the red dot was off. Blasted red dot. I was real happy with a previous take, until I realized I skipped ~ 1/3 of the song!!
This is the first “real” piece in my repertoire, which makes me wonder, if I have only one piece, is it even a repertoire??
btw, for lunch I had a sandwich with turkey, ham, salami, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onion, a dab of Italian seasoned olive oil, and Lorraine Swiss, on Italian bread.

Composer:traditional
Source of music:Fiddlers Fake Book
Instrument used:Casio Privia 100X
Recording method:digital to PC, then thru audacity
Critical feedback wanted:No
Additional info:Well, another "art of the possible" submission \:D I was at the contest tent at the SW Bluegrass Festival a couple of years ago, and as I listened to the banjos I thought "I can make my piano sound like that!" This is the tune I tried out that hypothesis on.

We (Roaring Jelly, the "band" I play with) played this at a contra dance last Saturday night. The fiddles took the melody the first time thru this tune, and then I did the melody once thru, and then the mando and whistle traded off, too. I had hoped to have a medley of tunes that we do for contra, but alas and alack only this one came up to speed as a honky-tonk melody. So - to salvage some kind of recital of it, I have here done it three times - once with a fairly straight-forward melody, in case you don't know the tune, and a single-note oom-pah bass, once as only an accompaniment as I would do with the fiddles playing the melody (tho I did play a beat *and* an off-beat in the left hand as well as chords in the right hand), and once in my "banjo" style with the full jumps in the bass. The tempo is 112, which is kind of medium for contra dances but definitely danceable (a brisk walking pace).

Like all the tunes we play for contra dances it's a 32-bar tune \:\)

Additional info:This piece is marked pp or p throughout. I am still working on getting it quieter. I am learning to bring out the melody. I probably had some more musical recordings, but this was the one with the least flubs. I still had a few undocumented pauses in there. Oh well. I love playing it. And people come over and ask what song that was--they really like it.

Title of piece:Angels Among Us
Composer:Becky Hobbs & Don Goodman - Arranged by Dan Coates
Source of music:Book: The Best in Country Music Sheet Music (Easy Piano)
Instrument used:Casio PX100
Recording method:Digital to PC - audacity
Critical feedback wanted:No
Additional info:I always liked this song. Earlier this year I lost my best friend (soul mate) and now know there are angels among us and I have a very special one watching over me. It's a simple little piece of music but comes from my heart. Today (the 15th) is my special angel's birthday and my heart aches more everyday that passes. So, Happy Birthday Angel, until we meet again.........

Title of piece:Vision Fugitives 1 (Lentamente) and 10 (Ridicolosamente)
Composer:Prokofiev
Source of music:http://www.sailwave.com/music/allvfop22.pdf
Instrument used:Yamaha U1
Recording method:Edirol R09 + Audacity.
Critical feedback wanted:Yes
Additional info:These need finishing/polishing and I wasn't going to submit them, then I watched Back to the Future - and when the Doc said "I figured what the hell..." I thought...

There are 20 Vision Fugitives (fleeting visions - one page minitures) each completely different and each completely wonderful... My Favourite is 8 but I can't quite play it yet... I named my boat after VF 10 - Ridcolosamente - so appropriate!! My kids always giggle when I play it - it's a well named piece - completely mad. My favoutite recordings are Prokofiev himself (quick) and Koroliov (slower).

Title of piece:Sonatina in G Major, K.A. 5, No. 1, I. Moderato
Composer:Beethoven
Source of music:Sonatina Album (Schirmer Performance Editions), Jeffrey Biegel, ed. Hal Leonard Piano Library.
Instrument used:Adagio 8816 Digital Piano
Recording method:Line in from digital piano to MacBook Pro recording in Audacity.
Critical feedback wanted:Yes
Additional info:I almost had access to a Zoom H2 and would have loved to have recorded this on my new Estonia 190 (next time!). However, I will let this be my ABF recital debut and farewell to my low end, Adagio digital piano that got me through the first year of lessons! I'm playing this live in a recital this Sunday, so feedback is especially welcome!
