Hi everyone,

Every year, we know it's time to learn and play Christmas songs, but personally, I have so much difficulty. I have been provided with a lovely, easy book of Christmas songs from my teacher and have been practising them. But, my playing is slow, and disjointed, with no flow or musicality.

I have realised that all in all my practise time is roughly in total 30 miniutes a week!!! This is not very much and I don't seem to be able to fit in any more with my work and everything.

I have done well to get to where I am on so little practise. If only I could practise more my playing would improve so much. But I don't have any more time to spare.

I would love to have two hours each day, and I know I would improve so much.

However, I just wanted to say, happy practising to you all with your Christmas songs and have you got a favourite one?

Mine is Coventry Carol. Quite a simple version, but a challenge for me.

I find Christmas music stressful. I don't have the patience to learn it and don't have the skill to sightread it.... I haven't even learned one this year.... I'll sightread the right hand should anyone ask but they'll have to sing or play an instrument too!!

I'm also working on what I think of as the dreaded Coventry Carol. My youngest granddaughter and I are supposed to play a duet of this for our Christmas recital. She hates to count and hates half notes (she says they slow her down!), so this is a real struggle. It's such a beautiful melody but we're just not together.

Since I've only been playing piano for about 11 months, most of the Christmas carols I can play are from primer and level 1 books, but I love playing them. I spent the past week at my son's house, and my granddaughter and I spent one evening taking turns playing carols. It was very enjoyable, and I think we will do it on Christmas also. I wish that I had thought to purchase some easy Christmas duet music for us to play together.
