Hi, I'm interested in joining the pianomagic community, but I'm from Spain and my english is not the good I'd like... I can read english fast without problems, I write not perfectly at all, but guess you understand what I write... (I hope... ) But spoken english is difficult for me to understand, I do it only if the person speaks clearly, I understand the Mike demo videos, but sometimes I have to repeat some missing parts Some of you always talk about the pianomagic interativity...Can the language be a real problem to join pianomagic? and another question... some of you said that if you can whistle it you can play... so... if I can whistle an accompaniment, could I play it? why do you say pianomagic is not for playing accompaniments? I sightread sheet music, but my goal is to play chords by ear in a natural way... cheers

Hi minoco Welcome to the forums Your written English is wonderful BTW (by the way) I am not sure about Spanish?...if you email Mike he'll let you know. There are many overhead videos to watch so they should help too...and you can watch them over and over (I do) Pianomagic can help with accompaniment for sure but, you have to go through the lessons to discover the simple secret that lies behind most popular music first (however this is something that you have to discover for yourself (its kinda right infront of your nose to be honest and can truly be a real Eureka moment for many!!) but, once you see it then you're free to take this baby any way you want to ) If your goal is "to play chords by ear in a natural way" then I know of no better way to learn to do it . sorry that's not much help...Mike'll know though send him an email regards Lee

thanks for your anwswer Seaside_Lee , I've post the question to Mike
I've watched the videos of the 2005 meeting, I liked a lot and guess you've improved since them. Seems we have similar musical tastes
My question is... to play one of those songs did you take a lot of try/error or practice or once you've got "how music thinks" you can play new songs instantly ?
where could I see more videos or songs from the members?
cheers

Hi minoco My question is... to play one of those songs did you take a lot of try/error or practice or once you've got "how music thinks" you can play new songs instantly ?
sometimes its instant ...most times it takes me 5 or 10 minutes to an hour...many times I can't figure 'em out at all and they go on my "Can't play list" for a time when I can understand deeper and my ear gets even sharper Theres a thread somewhere here (maybe 18 months or so ago) where I and other pianomagic students were asked to demonstrate how we would try to work out "I've been working on the railroad...you might find it interesting if I can find it? Just the fact that I can work out any songs still amazes me most days because trust me I couldn't tell whether melody went up or down at first (even "Mary had a little Lamb" was a douzie when I first started!!) There are more videos of students playing within the site regards Lee

Seems like to really benefit from an English forum, with English speaking members, and an English speaking owner, you'd want to be English speaking yourself.
Why would you pay $190 to look at videos of someones hands? That's what YouTube is for, and that's for free.
