My piano teacher just photocopied some chapters of The Persistent Pianist: A Book for the Late Beginner and Adult Re-Starter by Eileen Robilliard for me. The book seems to have been written in the 50's and is roughly in the genre of Charles Cooke's Playing the Piano For Pleasure, but written from the standpoint of a teacher of adult students, not the player him/herself. There are some second hand copies on Abebooks for under 20 dollars. The chapters I read seem interesting: they include "How to practice," "Are Scales Important" "How good can adult beginner's get" "What advantages or disadvantages do adult beginners have vs. children" "What are the goals studying the piano as a hobby vs. a profession." etc. - basically most of the topics that come up here in these threads. I'll post more after I have read the whole book.

Thank you! I have a copy of the Charles Cooke book and found the advice quite valuable. I will certainly look forward to reading your review of this one. \:\)

Not to get off track, but I stumbled across this website some time back:

http://www.musicalfossils.com/

It's been awhile, but I remember thinking it had some good info for the adult beginner.

Regards,
John
