Greetings everybody,
I just wanted to introduce myself. After years of "faking it", I've decided to take some lessons and learn to play this instrument properly. I am very excited!

Thanks for the warm welcome and wishes everyone!

My plan is to learn how to play the piano properly. I've been faking jazz for several years, but my technique is very limited. I studied percussion (drums, vibes, marimba) while growing up, but I have never studied piano.

My biggest problem is going to be finding the time to practice as much as I would like to!! Between job and family, I am concerned I will not have much time for daily practice.

My family acquired a piano about three weeks ago. I forgot how much I enjoy practicing an instrument. Like many of you, time dissappears when I am playing. I could play for hours. My family is adjusting to having Daddy do something for himself! Playing has been remarkably therapeutic for me. I have been in the best mood!

Best wishes to you all...

P.S. I know there is lots of controversy on these forums about Hanon, but I have been doing the first four exercises diligently for the past few weeks and I am seeing clear progress \:\)

"I am seeing clear progress"

Clear progress in playing Hanon? \:D

Please, if you must play them, make sure you're playing them correctly under a teacher's guidance. Do *NOT* follow Hanon's instructions and lift your fingers high and with precision or some such rot. It is very possible to injure yourself by playing incorrectly.

Bob,
Thanks for your thoughts. Before I started practicing Hanon, I did a search on this website. It was helpful to read all the opinions here, including yours.
