When I am starting to learn a new piece I can get the Cd to go with the piece Im learning for example doing the ABRSM grades have the Cd for all the pieces for that grades.

I listen to the Cd and decide which 3 pieces I will learn for the exam.
Has the grades get more complex Im finding playing the Cd does not help much. When I listen to the Cd I would really like to slow down the music to a speed that Im playing at so that I can determin how all those very fast complex passages should sound at the slower pace that we have to brake a piece in,also just being able to hear the treble and bass part seperatly would be great.

If these exam pieces were recorded has midifiles and have a seperate channel for left and right hand it would be possible to slow down the tempo and listen to both treble and bass seperatly.
Learning a new piece would so much easier and speed up the learning process of readind music for the piano.

What do you all think?
Regards,
Daz

Perhaps Classical Archives has a MIDI for the piece you're trying to learn. Even though they're free, I paid for membership to support the site.

I have no idea where you are, but I have bought this book and found it really fine.. original versions of the sheet music, so much good music and great CDs with performance, slower tempo study track and with MIDI you can separate left and right hand if you like.

The performances are utterly soulless renditions probably on a digital, but hey.. it's up to you to supply the soul anyway.

Daz,

I had been wanting to slow down CDs as well and one of our friends in your country recommended SlowGold (Thanks Andrea). I sent for it and it has been helping me with phrases that give me problems. I thought I would want to slow down the music to 25% or slower but 75% is really all I need in order to hear the phrasing. I sent for the CD which also includes an instruction book. You can download a trial for free and you can also download the program online if you wish to purchase it.

Have fun,
Steve
