I am a beginner and been studing for one month. I am still in "Alfreds Adult Beginners course #1"

I like to know how difficult the song "You are so Beautiful" actually is and how long it would take a complete beginner to learn. About how may years?
I realize that I wont tackle this song for quite some time but it is a goal.

"You are so Beautiful" sung by Joe Cocker
Words and Music by Billy Preston and Bruce Fisher

This was a popular song in 1975 and was the music for a movie "Carlita's Way" starring Ap Pachino

If you like, I would be more than happy to email you the entire sheet music. Just leave an email.

I wish there was a way to post it here

well i havent really paid attention to the piano in the song, but id guess itd definitely take you under a year to finish it. all you have to do is be really determined (which you are).

now i dont know how long the song is, so if you want to send me the sheet music for it my email is Hockeypro327@yahoo.com

im sure it wont take too long, so dont get down on yourself and think that itll take you years (plural) to finish it

It really depends on the arrangement and your skills. Even if I saw the arrangment, it would be difficult to say. For some kind of comparison, I learned Silent Night from a Readers Digest Christmas music collection in about three weeks after two months of lessons under an instructor.

You should start on the song and see how long it takes you to get the first phrase down. Then you might be able to extrapolate a little.

does it really matter how long it takes? Why not start and do your best, and when you are satisfied, then post to us how long it took you.

I remember the song. Did Joe Cocker sing it first, or was it by the Beatles?

I'm not much more advanced than you (5 months now) and started to learn a rather advanced piece (Mendelssohn's Opus 19 - 4). At least I memorized the first six measures (and they are the hardest). Took me some weeks, and I got cross-eyed from trying to read the music.

Enjoy the trip!

I agree that it does'n really matter how long it takes you to play this, it would in any case be almost impossible to determine. It all depends on your dedication, and how hard you practise. I have a very simplified version of the music, so you can e-mail yours to me so I can compare the difficulty of the two. If mine is easier, then you can learn that first, and then when you feel more confident, you can try a more difficult version. My e-mail is octave@magicmail.co.za

I would say that if you simply want to accompany yourself singing the song, then it shouldn't take you more than a couple of months (even as an absolute beginner). This is because you can simply play the chord changes open voiced while you sing the song (The piano/keyboard provides harmony to you/your wife singing the melody).

If you actually want to learn a solo piano arrangement then the time will depend on your dedication, and time as well as the complexity of the arrangement. For some this could be a few months and for others it could be a year.

Hey Kidblast-
Are you playing Imagine from a fake/lead sheet or real music?? I've been working on this song, but just from a guitar lead sheet that a friend of mine worked up, so it only has basic chords written above the lyrics. Let me know what music you are using as I'd like to find a better score(suitable for a beginner....).
