Well, some of you might remember me months ago, when I had posted here whilst I was 16, asking for 'advice' on what to tell my parents that I want to play Piano, as I was scared they'd refuse to let me etc.
But in the end, I just researched what DP's would be best and so on. And as some people suggested, I simply said to my Mum whilst alone in the car, that I'm going to start playing and will be buying myself a DP. And to be frank, she didn't care at all, score for me in my opinion.
Didn't really tell them the cost (Nearly £500), but on Monday I ordered a Yamaha YDP-131, and it arrived the next day.

That's that, and all I can say is it is amazing. I've worked through nearly half of Alfreds Adult Piano Course and am gliding, it really is amazing. Played for roughly 3 hours yesturday, and nearly 4 hours today.
And the best part was, when I began to learn the song that really made me want to do this (learnt about 1/4), I had a huge grin on my face!

I'm 17 now, and only wish I could have started this years ago.

I've learnt Jingle Bells, Saint's Go Marching In, and some others today.
But whilst learning the song I said earliar, I get really stuck when a tonne of broken chords come in, and I can't get my fingers around quick enough.
How long would this take to begin accomplishing if I'm spending around 2 hours a day on it?

Also, maybe a silly question, but the position of notes on C Major and G Major are the same aren't they?

Hi Lavace! Sure I remember you. Congratulations on your new piano. You are embarking on a life-long rewarding adventure. And I'm glad your family didn't flip their wigs.

Congratulations Lavace! It must have been a very exciting day when your piano arrived and you're certainly making wonderful progress. As to how long something will take, your 2 hours a day will certainly make things come a lot faster but don't be too impatient. It takes a while to get more difficult hand/finger positions "in your fingers" but I guarantee that one day you'll sit down and suddenly what was really hard will be easy.

Lavace, that's really wonderful! Surely the focus and determination which drove you to obtain a piano will guide you as you study and practice. Sounds like you're rolling along quite well. Big congrats, you should be proud!

it will take no time at all if u put in 2 hours a day into it. considering your age, you should be moving much faster than most kids who begin much earlier.

dont expect the speedy improvement to continue for too long, however, or u may find yourself getting frustrated when reality doesnt coincide with your expectations

i used to have a lot of problems with broken chords as well. all i remember is that it comes with time and practice, and it is something that comes naturally after some time. it definitely feels more natural to play broken chords on the left hand when improvising rather than the full chord(sorry dont know what to call the whole chunk of notes, i didnt study theory)

not sure what u mean by the question on notes in C maj and G maj. anyway C major is played entirely on the white keys, while the G major scale has one black key, which is the 7th note. when u would be playing F, u move it up one note and play F# instead. hope this answers your question

do continue to shoot away with your questions. im sure getting answers will ease your mind and make u feel more confident about your playing. im applauding your courage and am behind u all the way

Congratulations, Lavace, sounds like you found the piano groove, just let your obsession carry you along, be patient, have fun and it'll all come to you with time (of which you've got plenty).

Congrats, Lavace, you're really breezing along. I didn't quite understand your question about C major and G major, but if you mean is the fingering the same when you play the scales, yes, it is.
