Welcome boogieman52, Azk and dee180!

I've made it to The Entertainer! Wheeee! It's going fairly well except for having to "jump" with my LH at times. This is the one song where I have to look at my hands...just a peek here and there. Yeah, I really need to work on that...lol. I've tried Amazing Grace a few times and it's a challenge... shocked

I figure I'll be going into Book 2 in a couple of weeks. I'll still pop in to see how you're all doing. *hugs!*

I did it! I've conquered "Good People"!!! This one song has taken me the longest by far of any piece in AAIO. I will keep it on my playlist for a while - but now on to "Little Brown Jug". I have been doing the right hand, and have attempted to put HT a few times, but now I get serious with it.

Congratulations thumb

GP, LBJ, and Chiapanecas are difficult to get by- but you will catch a break with Auld Lang Syne and O Sole Mio. They are much easier. I'll probably record O sole Mio tomorrow for my AAIO file and move on to ... I think it's Jericho?

Congrats from Canada mom3gram...that piece doesn't look easy.

I'm still working on "The Can-Can"...it's getting better...I'll be on "Good People" soon.

I have a question...do people who have been playing the piano for years have to practice a new piece over and over again or is it really simple for them?

Thanks, Carl, Kenny, Leon and Romolo. I'm so glad to move on. It's tough to be stuck for so long.

Romolo, I think those that have been playing for a long time do have to practice a new piece over and over again, because their new pieces are proportionally harder than ours. Just look at some of the study groups for classical pieces here on ABF, and how long people have been working on them.

But, we can always find new pieces that are at or below our current level, and those will be easier to learn.

I still like to hop in here from time to time and read up on how everyone is progressing along on the Alfred series.

It's been so long since I worked out of the books but I think I'm doing pretty good without them. I will still appreciate the start they gave me, however.

My Ludovico Einaudi "course books" have been keeping me very busy. smile

Anyway, to all the beginners who seem to be having fun and progressing through the book, carry on and good luck!

I've got "O Sole Mio" down reasonably well now. The end still gives me trouble (that seems to be the case for me a lot) and that arpeggiated chord is pretty much impossible for me to play without coming to a complete stop before it (and even then it's tough). But I'm happy with it so I'll move on and review it more at the start of each session.

So the Can-Can is in the can, in a manner of speaking. smile

How long is Book 1 taking people on average to get through? I ask because I thought a year when I started, I'm now about 1/3 of the way and wondering if I'm going to fast. I'm just looking to see what the average is.

Today I got my piano, it's a Yamaha DXG-630.

I have the Adult All-in-one course book...it's 143 pages. I started mid January. I'm on page 116 now. I've noticed that for the first 50 pages, I just flew through them...just cuz the lessons were pretty basic and easy. But now pieces are taking me longer to learn. I think I'll be done with this book in another 2-3 months. So that would be about 7 months.

I started The Lesson Book (95 pages) the 26th of April and now I am at pag. 53 (Kumbaya).
At the moment I find it quite easy, but I believe the very next lessons will be be more difficult. For example, I know that many people have problems with Blow The Man Down...
I am going to integrate The Lesson Book with other Alfred's books I have ordered (Country, Christmas, Pop Song, Sacred, Jazz/Rock), so I do not think to finish the Lessons before the end of the summer.
My policy is: going fast now and then slow down, practicing more interesting tunes from those books.
At the moment my motivation is very strong, so I hope to improve quickly.
Keep on practicing! :-)
