OK, you adult piano players. It's time to get serious about daily practice. And you know what that means . . .

*MOYD!*

MOYD, for those who aren't well and truly sick of it by now, means "Master Of Your Domain." We stole it from Seinfeld, fair and square.

It is a challenge/contest where we each pledge to get to the piano for some amount of practice every single day. MOYD participants keep up this daily practice as long as they can. Anyone who misses a day must come here and declare that they are "out" of MOYD. [edit:We will then move them to the bottom of the MOYD list along with the date they "fell off the bench," whereupon they can resume daily practice and hope to do better next time.]

The details:

1. Participating in MOYD requires you to sit on the piano bench and play something at least once daily. That's it. There is no minimum amount of time required. Just get to the bench every day, it will become a habit, and good things will happen to your piano skills.

2. If you are away from home, you don't have to practice.

3. If you are sick, you don't have to practice.

4. If you are "out" because you miss a day, you come here and tell us the sad tale of woe that kept you from practicing. In the past, the reasons people failed to get to the piano usually boiled down to "I forgot."

5. MOYD starts January 1, 2006.

So. Are ya in for 2006? I am!

[edit: Oh yeah. I'm declaring Frank the 2005 MOYD winner unless someone else steps up and says they're still in for 2005.]

Count me in. Do we have to sign up for the practice log, too? Or just report here when, I mean "if," we fail?

No, the practice log is totally separate from MOYD.

If you want in on MOYD, just post to this thread. It's all on the honor system.

And if there's anything pianists have lots of, it is honor! laugh

Count me in, too, Cindy. I've found the threat of public humiliation to be a great motivator! laugh

I'm out.

Oh, damn. That's what I said last year. I really need to come up with some new material.

I'm in. I think MOYD's a good idea! It's fun for myself to see how long can I go without missing a day.

I'll try for 2006. Does a lesson count getting on the bench to play?

I don't think the away from home rule should count if there is a piano in the vacinity of your whereabouts.
And as for the sick rule.... flu doesn't count unless you are hallucinating from a fever. smile

I'm in.

I'm usually pretty good about getting in at least a few minutes, but some extra motivation couldn't hurt.

Hmmm. I don't think a lesson should count. We're talking about motivating yourself to get to the bench.

Besides, doesn't everyone cram for an hour before a lesson anyway? ;D

Jan. 1 is tough for lots of people, what with the hangovers and the travel.

And to that, I say . . .

**TOO BAD!!! GET YOUR BUTT ON THE BENCH ANYWAY!!!** laugh

You know, maybe we should up the stakes. We should bestow a title on the winner.

I suggest "The Markb Prize."

I'm in.

Since I'm finished with scheduled performances, I haven't been good about practicing. Apparently I need external motivation. MOYD will be a great help!
