Ragnhild: I'm sorry if I got confused on the numbers of the 41/ mazurkas. Since the numbers of this opus are often called by something else, could you please indicate the key.
C# m E m B M Ab M
Thanks, Kathleen

To stick to Frycek's numbering (that are not the same as on my music) I will play Op 41.4 C# minor Op 41.1 E minor Op 41.3 Ab major Hopefully in this order, but since the C# minor is the hardest (awful lots of double #, and some tough stretching of fingers), I might have to change to 1,3,4 Ragnhild

OK, Ragnhild...I put you on the list for the above. The order is up to you, of course. But I just wrote them in the order that you "thought" you might be playing. I hope this is OK.
My apologies to Balakirev. I think with his abilities he can choose another that will show off his skills.
So sorry for the mix-up, Kathleen

Playadom: (Oooppsss, forgot the "a.")
What happened to your avatar? I'm glad you were joking about the 6/1. I have a feeling that as people start changing their minds, and choosing different mazurkas...more mix-ups might occur. I hope not.
If the error is my fault, then, of course, whoever stated their intention first, gets it. That's the only way to be fair.
But what could happen (to really drive me over the edge) is when people drop a piece which another had indicated they wanted...somewhere later in the thread.
I will try my best to keep a handle on this. Bear with me and be kind...I'm an old lady. Fycek has kindly offerred (actually I enlisted her) to be my assistant to keep tabs on everything.
My best to all, Kathleen

Gosh, Playadom...I don't know. If people start in to playing more than one then what will we have left for the other two recitals?
I can understand your desire, for I, also, would love to play two. Six months inbetween is a rather long time, I admit. The only reason for this is to commemorate either Chopin's birth or death. So we're talking a year and a half...which is a very long time. However, some people might need that long.
I don't see any real reason why a person can't play more than two. Most people (and I am only presuming) will only play one. But I could be wrong.
So, let's hear from other people on what they think about this.
Kathleen

I see. Perhaps I'll hold back until other people choose.
I really do need to get a new avatar, ha.

Playadom:
For some reason the program that is responsible for putting in the avatars makes my portrait of Chopin look fat and wide. Ugh. But I've noticed that other people's avatars are not that way. So what gives?
Yours did work for a while. I remember seeing a page with print on it.
So far I haven't heard from the "crowd" regarding playing more than one. So the jury is still out.

OK, Playadom: You've fixed it. Now (and excuse my ignorance), but I don't recognize the man. Who is he?
Thanks, LaValse.
Ragnhild: Balakirev is playing the B major. The list on the first page is updated to show this. I'm glad it all worked out for both of you.

That man is Alkan. I think he was one of Chopin's friends. Great music, especially his Concerto for Solo Piano.

Dear Bassio: There are over 30 that have not been spoken for. Look on the first page of this thread and you will find those that are, in order of their opus number, so it should be easy to find what you are looking for.
If you have a particular one that you want to know about and are not certain, let me know. Otherwise, I will have to make a list of 30. Not that I mind, but I have to get back to the piano sometime today.
Thanks, Playadom: Yes, I do recall Alkan being a good friend of Chopin's.

Heh. What would be cool is if Chopin's 26.2 were a mazurka. (Maybe it is. Perhaps he didn't make a 26.2?)
But it would be insanely cool, given the title.

We have 33.3(mazurka) - 7.1(mazurka) = 26.2 (mazurka-mazurka = nothing? or perhaps it's like miles - miles?)

What are you talking about? If it concerns math, don't bother telling me.
OK, Bassio You're on for 68/4

I'm not sure if I have ever asked this question before, but what characterizes a mazurka? That is, what differentiates it from other musical "genres", perhaps let's say, a polonaise? Sorry for being ignorant. I can usually tell the difference when hearing them. But I'm looking for a more theoretical explanation.

Hi Kathleen,
Can you put me down for 17 3 for recital 2 and 17 1 for recital 3?
Just a thought: those are a long way away. If we put our dibs on the ones we want to do for the next two recitals now, will there be mazurkas left for any new members that join between now and then?
If we want to change our minds about putting in bids for these so far in advance, I'm happy to withdraw these two requests.
