I'm playing solo piano at a retirement party this sunday - one of the pieces requested is something called "Contipartino" - not sure if my spelling is even close. Anybody heard of it? I googled it and came up empty - I found a website that has a piece by A. Bocelli called Partino (not sure of that spelling either - they used old-english font) I listened to it - sounds simple enough - I transcribed the first few-bars - its in 4 and goes like this (in C): |g c | c b d| c | c d| e |e d f e| c f|e c f e c a| the first measure is half-notes, repeated notes from the previous measure are tied over; 2nd measure is a half-note followed by two quarter notes; 3rd measure is a whole note and the last measure is all quarter-note triplets - wish there was a way to actually write music on this forum. Anybody recognize this? Is this the right song? Am I close? thanks in advance for your help. BTW- its a suprise party - the person that booked me wasn't really sure of the song name and I can't really ask the guest of honor but i did promise to try to find it.

You are close - the song is called Con Te Partiro (Time to say goodbye). Its been covered most famously by Boccelli and Sarah Brightman (although I am a fan of Katherine Jenkins' recording).

The notes you provided play a recognisable part of the tune, and I'm sure it will go down well! If you need any help with how it sounds, just use amazon for the 30-second sample:

It really is a fantastic song, and hope you enjoy playing it!!

Euan.

Ask, and ye shall receive..... Con Te Tiparo / Time to say Goodbye

It's both a solo recording by Bocelli, and a duet with Sarah Brightman ("Time to Say Goodbye")

By jove, I think I found it for you! I tried googling an alternative spelling "contepartino" and it yielded several hits for a song entitled "Conte Partiro," which has an English translation of "Time to Say Goodbye"--which strikes me as a perfect song for a retirement party!

Anyway, you can listen to the song at this site here -- look down the left-hand column.

And here's another web site that describes the song: more on con te partiro

Of course, if that really is the song, you'll have to dig around to find the sheet music...but this is a start.

The music video to the Katherine Jenkins version can be found on yahoo! music:

http://search.uk.music.yahoo.com/launch/search/?m=all&p=katherine+jenkins

It takes a couple of seconds to load, but its worth the wait - a great song (and Miss Jenkins is rather pretty too smile )
