I haven't been on the forum much lately because I've been driving back and forth between Maine and NY as my dad got sicker and sicker. Dad died today and I just wanted to revive a thread I posted on the pianist forum a while back. He saw the thread and everyone's response and it really meant a lot to him. He was a great musician and a great man. Thanks, http://www.pianoworld.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?/topic/2/17151.html

Peyton, My sincerest condolences for your loss. I had seen that thread-he was truly a very special man. It's great that he got to read the comments for himself.

Peyton - What a wonderful thing to say about your father (and it sounds like he was a great father too!). Very sorry for your loss - but I'm sure he's singing with a more "heavenly" orchestra now. I read back over your previous thread - great tribute! (thanks for the link). Regards, JF

Peyton, I just listened to your Chopin Nocturne of last May recital and your dad singing the wonderful "On Eagles Wings". I am very moved. I'm very sorry for your loss.

There is a beautiful song called If I Sing from the musical Closer Than Ever, by Maltby and Shire. The composer's father (in real life) was also a musician, and it's a moving tribute in which he says to his aging father, who can no longer play, if I sing, it's you singing. My father isn't even a musician, and this song tears me up each time.

Thanks all. I'm down in NY taking care of things with my Mom and it's nice to read such warm comments from my friends here. jjo... I actually did write a song for my dad but never had the nerve to play it for him. We had some pretty tough times together and spent a long time practically estranged. This song is about that. Also, my singing and playing compared to his was pretty pitiful and he never liked it much. Here is the song. It's called Judging Distances. http://www.box.net/shared/6meyprn7un -Peyton BTW- I posted this earlier (I'm using my Mom's computer) not realizing that my Mom (Merle Izard) had stayed logged in so this was posted under her name. Sorry Mom.

Dear Peyton,
Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of your Dad. My Dad passed away about 12 years ago and I still miss him.
A good way for you to continue to honor your late father would be to keep up the great work on your own music. I’ll bet he was really proud of you.
Best regards,
Rickster
