The following link is great to help you learn the notes.

I set it on intermediate, 12 note, no sharps or flats and I do it twice a day for 25 notes. It helps me heck of a lot.

Steve, that is brilliant! Thanks for posting it. I've been using flashcards to try to help me practice identifying notes, but this is way better. thumb

Your welcome Kent. I run this up on the forum every few months for new members to see. By the way, welcome to PW.

I learned my notes on both clefs with the Paced Note reading exercise on http://www.emusictheory.com/practice.html

Notes come from the right and once they are on the left side you have to select the proper note. It also learns you to read ahead as several notes appear at once, something that flash cards or single note exercises don't do.

The site contains some other interesting drills as well!

Through the use of DenCato's link I've confirmed what I've long suspected. Once the notes go below or above the staff lines I'm basically guessing.

50 out of 60 correct!

Of course, that doesn't take into account how long it took me to identify each note, and how much line counting and muttering I was doing. ("All Cows Eat Grass, Every Good Boy ...") And it certainly is easier to find the right key when the note names are displayed just below the keyboard. Hmm. My piano seems to be missing that feature.

Thanks for the link, Stevester. Very useful!
