My piano teacher and I shared some memories at my lesson yesterday. We remembered a kind of computer-driven printing device that used to be located in the music store where I have my lesson. It was there for several years back in the 1990's.

This machine looked a bit like an ATM. It had a library of music in memory, and it was possible to order up a piece in virtually any key -- not limited to the original key of the piece. This device was coin-operated on a "pay by page" basis. Somewhere over the years this machine disappeared.

Does anyone know if there are any websites or other sources where a person can obtain musical pieces, but "order" the piece transposed into another key?

I don't know about piano, but you can get guitar chords for songs in the key of your choice at www.chordie.com. I think that's pretty cool!

Good luck in your search.

if you have Finale or similar music notation software, you can just import your music into it and then select any key you want to transport to to make this happen.

Signa beat me to it. Finale rules on stuff like that! I was Queen for a Day when I was able to transpose a song down to accommodate a young choir that just couldn't hit those high notes.

I'm sure the other software packages do a good job, too.... Finale is just the one I use.

I've never heard of the machine you describe, Glyptodont (?). It sounds intriguing.
