Just a consideration :

I was born in the country where was invented the Pianoforte, the country of Romans, we have more than 2000 years of great history and tradictions but we have, among the others, a remarkable thing to learn from you :

1. Your way to face a tragedy

11/9

Virginia (the latest)

You are a great country, you are great people !

To you all my sincere admiration.
Sorry for the OT.
Luigi

It is a skill I wish we did not need.

Thank you.

thank you luigi, it's a shame such a great country but so much violence and tragedies.

I lived in Italy for 3 years and I long for the day when I can return (we're looking at this time next year).

Italy is a country you cannot help falling in love with. It's so full of life, the scenery is to die for the people live for the day. There's no rushing things there, it happens when it happens. It's more important to drink a cappuccino with a panini in peace while conversing with a friend than rushing madly to put a project out for a deadline.

ahhhh Italy \:D

right, it's a great country and yet there're a lot of violence, tragedies, politics, fanatics and corruptions... just hope we could personally avoid all that in our life ... and some day visit Italy of course!

Thank you for your thought, LuigiV.

It's not like we have a choice to face or not to face these tragedies. It could happen anywhere. People are killed senselessly everyday around the world. We can only hold ourselves together and go on.

Two weeks ago, the evening the University of Florida basketball team won the national championship, a college student left a celebration party drunk, hit and killed a police officer.

Thank you, Luigi. As someone said above, it's a strength I wish we did not need to evidence so often. Our thoughts are all with those touched by this latest tragedy.

(And, I, too, wish to visit your lovely country some day....)

Tommorow there is one minute of silence at noon in VA for all those who were killed at Virginia Tech on Monday.

The families that lost their loved ones need your prayers.

man, you're a poet. Or, as Jefferson puts it: "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance."

I'm not from there though, but I'm a citizen of the world and can certainly relate to tragedies...

Mille grazie for the kind words and thoughts, Luigi.
Let's also remember the tragedies and sufferings happening in other countries too.

Yes, thanks.

Most Americans are told almost daily that the rest of the world hates us and we're having to learn to not care what the rest of the world thinks, but we do (secretly), and your words are appreciated. Sadly it is in the face of tragedy that we best come together.

And even more sadly (and I hate to say it because it sounds so cynical) but the collective sadness and grief of the world that brings us all together today may be slowly torn apart in the coming weeks as the blame begins to try to find a home. Please be with us then too.

If everyone could just simply respect and have some tolerance for one another without force feeding their ideals or beliefs upon others, would'nt that simple plan work??

Realistically no, and thats what the real shame is imo.

Thanks for your thoughts Luigi.

Gyro,
what kind of person are you for thinking about this ?
My words were sincere, I am sorry you could think this about my thread and I am sorry I can not explain in a better way my thought in english.
Life and dead deserve respect, like tragedies ones, whereever occurs in ALL the world.
Sorry again for my bad english.
Luigi

It is so true, and what happened in Virginia was a tragedy and a shock to everybody - and it could just as well have happened in Europe somewhere.

Thank you for this thread to show sympathy to those close to this tragedy.

Luigi, I understood your English perfectly, and I really appreciate your thoughtfulness! Thank you for sharing your feelings with us. Even though I'm not in the US, as a US citizen (with parents who work in unversities) this tragedy seems very close to home.

[moderator hat] I'll be keeping my eye on this thread. OT threads are fine. But, however tempting it may be, let's not get into a debate about the larger issues this tragedy might bring to mind. [/moderator hat]
