Unfortunately,

Earlier this week I woke up and stretched my arms straight up. Then, like an idiot, I let my arms fall down...my right elbow landed on a pillow and my forearm and hand kept going down, down, down. I hyperextended my elbow. Now I have shooting pains in fingers 3 and 4, the palm of my hand, and my forearm. Not too bad, but enough to keep me from playing like I want to.

So, because of all of the LH in Chopin's Etude 10.12 I have started learning it. I just can't keep away from the piano. This is WAY ahead of schedule but what else can I do?!?!?

I think I will be plinking for quite some time.

Bummer,

If you think it's too hard, then don't do it. Chopin prelude Op 28#3 has similar lh technique, and is much shorter. Also, a little easier is Op 10#9.
Not knowing what else you play, though, all of these might be too hard for you.

Watch the pedal carefully. The proper pedalling on this piece can make or break a performance.

Have you tried "The Aeolian Harp" In A flat. (I'm at work and cannot remember the number.) It's easy to read, and not too hard to play. (If I can do it, ANYbody can!)
Good luck.

I am confused. Are you saying it is Chopin's fault that you hyperextended your elbow? You might want to let that heal a bit. Ouch.

I've never attempted 10-12, except for ritualistically playing thru it once. It sounds might difficult for the amount of ear pleasure. You could always play 10-1 while your arm heals.. I hyperextended my elbows several times at the end of my tumbling days. They didn't heal over nite.. good luck.

No,I think he's saying that he's giving his right arm a rest because he hyper-extended his right elbow accidentally. As a result, he's playing op. 10#12 because it's lh etude, which either is or is not a good idea depending on how advanced he is.

i attempted op.10.9 and F minor one of trio-etude, and never got through 1st page of either one. maybe i just need some determination to get through any of them, since technically they seem managable, although i could barely play either at the tempo even for the 1st page. my LH jump is definitely weak.

btw, i play a few Bach inventions and c minor prelude, Mozart K545 and a few (easy) movements of some Beethoven sonatas, and Chopin prelude op.28.7. so, maybe Chopin etudes seem still too elusive for me now.
