The list has been updated - see top of first page of this thread. Welcome Theowne, Mistaya, and Pianolicious! Please check the list and see if you are comfortable with these pieces next to your names I will remove the asterisks from the list if we do not hear back within the next day or so from Op30No3 and Ragnhild.

I can easily do #5 or #19 in two months, I suggested #10 based on its shortness, thinking that I would be a backup for the last minute.
I do have large hands, but I'd rather not do 19. #12 is just murder. It's sort of like 10.2. Anyway, Frycek, what tempo do you play #22 at?
They're just so nice, I'll probably learn them anyway!

Great new list, Greg, but just a thought. We have Thalamus down for 20. I don't think I'm going to hear from him. 20 is easy, so I can volunteer or if someone new or someone else would like it, that's OK also.

Well, Super Hunky, I'll have to take your request up with the committee. I don't know what committee yet; but one will definitely have to be formed to decide upon such issues as using a Barry Manilow interpretation of a Chopin composition which is also somewhat of an improvisation of both or one or the other or neither. I think we will need about 3 years to get back to you on this? But thanks for your interest. Kathleen

This thread is moving awfully quickly.
19 sounds AWFULLY hard. Let me listen to all four and get back to you.
Maybe I should let Monica K. pick one for me. She knows what I can and cannot follow through on.

Let me sight-read some and get back to you.
I start school Monday -- 18 credit hours all cores -- so I am not going to commit till I talk to my instructor. 2 months ain't that much time.
5 and 19 sure look pretty though. Let me play around with them I need a break today anyway.

I'm not familiar with her recording. The only recording I know of on the net is Paderewski's on the Classic Music archives. Hershey's is a bit faster than that and a good bit wilder, deliberately. I said I was trying for it, I doubt if I'll make it.

[/b] Monica K. thinks you're crazy to take on a new commitment like learning an "awfully hard" Chopin Prelude in two months, that also happen to coincide with starting a demanding new academic program, without asking your teacher first. (Though I'm sure you could do it and would enjoy hearing you play it. )

Although I really don't care. I really should have started earlier. I can play both hands HS in about 1 min each, and I've just started to join. I'll do 14 if nobody else offers to do so, but I'd rather give someone else the chance.

It doesn't seem overtly difficult - most of the "challenges" are in the dynamics. Maybe you can bring out something special from it... [/b] I'm sure that the dynamics, however good I might play them, might be muffled a bit by my horrible microphone.

Well gerg you heard it from Monica. I do like 12 though. It's melodic and harmonic.
Maybe the next recital . . . I'll put something in the piano bar though. I'll be the afterglow act.
Have fun!
PS: Taking Frycek's sig line literally for now!

I think you are moving awfully fast with this decisions, I can't follow only because of the time zone - what if Op30no3 is on holiday ?? Thanks, Mistaya for playing number 6 - it is beautiful and I like it very much, but there is no way that my piano can give justice to this very fine prelude. I've told a month ago that I could play no 11, but I guess that is just another of my stupid childish opinions Ragnhild

Hey, I do not want to play number 6, It has given me a really hard time because the bass of my piano is too muddy, the una corda pedal makes it sound like choking and no pedal sounds pling-plong. I'll play no 6 the day I can afford a Bösendorfer I said earlier http://www.pianoworld.com/ubb/ubb/ultimatebb.php?/topic/32/4531.html#000000 that I can do no 11 if there's a crisis - it sounds ok on a light piano - but things does not seem to have gone that far, no crisis yet.... Apart from that, everybody : Go slow, take care, make a nice recital and don't eat people for lunch ! Ragnhild
