To all you Zoom H4 users out there - I just noticed that a system update is available which adds some nice features --> Zoom H4 System Version 2.00 Update

I'll be updating my H4 tonight! thumb

Hmm. Christmas is coming soon. Maybe I should get a Zoom. All of the forumites say that they're extremely good.

Thanks for the heads up krypt0! Those are definitely some nice additions. The H4 must be selling well for the company to continue paying a software developer.

I especially like the new font, normalization, auto-start record, and MP3 encoding!

Thanks for the notice krypt0. I just updated my zoom. Although the font is larger, I have to say that those who wear glasses aren't going to be throwing them away after doing the update laugh

It is nice to see them enhancing the product though.

I got my Zoom only two months ago, and it had only firmware V1.30 installed. This upgrade to V2.00 is certainly worth having.

I don't normally update firmware -- if it ain't broke, don't fix it -- but I'm going to make an exception this time. smile

Just having the battery and recording time left permanently displayed is worth the hassle of upgrading to me. Thanks, krypt0!

p.s. to Playadom: The Zoom belongs at the top of your list for Santa. It really really is that neat. smile

I just updated mine. I still had version 1.0, and it was working fine, but this update sounded too good to pass up. I'm usually reluctant to update firmware unless it is necessary to solve a problem. Although it's never happened to me personally, I know a couple of people who tried firmware updates and rendered their hardware useless. Just make sure the device is plugged in while updating - this is the first time I've ever taken the AC adapter out of the box. Should you lose power during a firmware update, the results could be disastrous, so don't do it during a thunderstorm, either. laugh The update only takes a couple of minutes, so you might think you'll be okay on battery power. You probably will, but why take the chance of making your nifty toy just a lump of plastic and metal?

TX...you might want to post a detailed process for those that may be technically challenged, not to mention any names laugh ...or a little intimidated...since your familiar with it and that it DID WORK out OK...

It's really not that tricky.

1. Most importantly, make sure the Zoom is plugged in and operating on the AC adapter rather than battery power or USB power from your computer. Check your Zoom for its firmware version. There are different versions of the update depending on what version you currently have. Download the one you need.

2. Extract (unzip) the files to your hard drive.

3. Copy the file called SYSTEM.BIN into the root directory of your SD card, that is to say, do not place it into any folder.

4. Turn the Zoom off.

5. Turn the Zoom on while gently pressing down the bottom of the round menu button.

6. You will see the message Version Up? Below that are some icons and OK or cancel. If you do not see this message, you were probably pressing too hard on the menu button. Just turn the unit off and try again. GENTLY this time. laugh Use the jog dial on the left side to move the cursor to OK. Then press the jog dial to start the update.

7. Wait a couple of minutes until you see the message that the update is done. Turn the Zoom off, then back on again to initiate the new firmware.

8. You're done.

Glad to see the update is going well for everyone. I didn't get a chance to update mine yet... frown

EDIT: Okay, I'm updated now! Seamless process that only takes a couple minutes. thumb

Now I'm off to experiment with some external mics I borrowed from a musician friend to see how much better they sound over the Zoom's internal mics...fun, fun, fun.

From the look of the update, those who already updated to 2.0 could probably give 2.1 a miss (unless you're using the recent MacOS Leopard release). Of course, if you've not updated to 2.0 you may as well just go straight to 2.1 since they're cumulative.
