I've got a new method of playing rythm:

When there are mostly eighth notes in a song, I do something like that in my head: (tam, tam) per beat

When there are a lot of sixteenth notes: (tam, tam, tam, tam) per beat

This allows me to concentrate more on the song than on counting.

What do you think about it?

Hi erz,

Not a bad approach. It's better if you change your syllables to make them longer or shorter for the length of the note. Like this:

crotchet or quarter note = ta
2 quavers or eight notes = ti-ti
4 semiquavers or sixteenth notes = tika-tika
eight note+2 sixteenth notes = ti-tika
2 sixteenths + an eighth = tika - ti
minim or half note = too
dotted crotchet + quaver... dotted quarter+eighth = taam- ti
dotted eighth + semiquaver = tim-ka

Here's a site with this idea:

IMO, it is still a good idea to get used to counting. When you force yourself to concentrate on both the song and counting you will find that eventually you can concentrate on more things at once while playing.

Rich

I will try it.

I'm used to couting but I could not count sixteenth notes until I tried this new method.

Thanks for advices!
