Hi everybody,
this is a great forum, I've been going through some of the threads and the information in here is so exhaustive that I might never have to go to any othe r place for any advice...
anyways, I am hoping for somebody to suggest me a book or any other media to help me playing..
I've only ever played by ear, and I am ok at it, but i haven't got much knowledge of theory and absolutely no knowledge of reading music. I know it can be hard learning to play without a teacher and no book can come evn close to be a complete guide, but is there a book or a combination of books that can teach me to read music and take me through most of the steps(in theory) to become a better player...

many thanks to all

hi sahil,

Here's a web site with the books I use. I love them all. They take you step by step in everything you need to know.

http://www.musiccentralwebsite.com/piano_methods.htm

There's another book that's recommended and I have it but I lost interest in it almost immediately. I tend to get bored easily so I stick with my method books and supplemental material.

hope you find something that suits you

Hi,

There's a free option on the web to get you started that I really like. There's both a small, free set of graded piano lessons and a free theory workbook. Good stuff.

The music is here (scroll down to "first pieces"):
http://www.gmajormusictheory.org/Freebies/freebies.html

The theory workbook is here:

Of the methods that loly showed you in the link above, my favorite is Piano Adventures. I'm sure others will disagree -- we piano teachers all have our favorites! :-)

Best,

Kim

I find Eric Taylor's "The AB guide to music theory" (parts I, II and III) really helpful. I'm still on part I but it's easy to follow and seems to have everything I need to know in it.
