I would HATE to be this kid's piano teacher. His movements would drive me crazy!

Sorry, and am I the only one who thinks the first child had absolutely no feel or respect or emotion for this piece? It seemed like a "throw-away" for him.

I really didn't like it AT ALL.

Point well made. She gets my vote. They both impress me. I can't help but wonder what they are born with that gives them the ability to play these pieces and are they so pressured to play that they don't get to be a kid?

I think if you're born Asian you automatically get +10 skill points in finger dexterity. What's a Mozart Concerto for people who can beat Super Mario 3 in 10 minutes and 30 seconds.

Oops! my bad, you said "first child".

About the second child: For Mozart music, I think it's hard for anyone to play much better than that.

About pressure on a young pianist, I doubt that a kid could play that well if he/she doesn't want to play.

Are you people actually impressed with someone playing Fur Elise, or just being sarcastic?

Please tell me it's sarcasm...

I actually like people who are impressed with Fur Elise. I wish there were more of them.

I had a close friend in high school who was dismissive of my playing and never impressed with anything I played. My inability to get even a lukewarm compliment from him destroyed my self esteem.

So anyone impressed with Fur Elise is way cool in my book!

A brief perusal of YouTube will reveal lots of videos of kids playing the piano. Many of them play at a very high level. But most are just kids and they are not mature concert artists. I think that clearly applies to the first video presented here (understatement, I know ;\) ).

One problem with delving into their performances in an anonymous forum like this is the inevitable comparisons and criticisms of very young people. I suppose one can argue that if they or their families post stuff to YouTube they open themselves to anything others might care to say. Fair enough. In fact, this is one reason why I thought long and hard before sharing my own son's videos.

Piano-dad..In todays world where more and more kids are getting into drugs and crime as we see everyday, I am extremly proud and impressed by all youngsters, yours included, who occupy thier minds with playing music. I am so not into classical music(but I like it) that I don't know when a piece is played right or not. I guess I shouldn't even have made a post about it, but my post was more about the involvement of the young man. He had several other videos and I thought he was good for 9 years of age. I guess that I am just impressed too easily.

I agree that very young people do not have the life experience to express themselves totally but I feel too.... aahhh.....um.... jealous??? to ever criticize the technical ability of these performers.

Life experience will come. After all, some of them haven't even experienced puberity!! Give them a break. If we had HALF the technical skills that these "babies" did, we'd be AMAZING!!!

I for one, have had TONS (enough already!!) of life experiences....now if only my technical experience was half as great.... I can only dream...... Kudos to all those kids who can technically accomplish Rachmanoniv or other advanced repertorie.....Way to go!!!!!

Ray,

This is what I get for not expressing myself clearly! \:D

I'm not really criticizing anyone who has posted in this thread, or any of the young musicians involved. I am just relating that I am somewhat uncomfortable with ANY anonymous discussion (or dissection) of kids on the web. Your posting of this young kid's music opens him up for such a discussion or dissection. Yet the other side of the argument is that his performance is part of the public domain and thus eligible for such a discussion or dissection. Hence two sides to the issue.

I guess my bottom line to all and sundry is a plea: think carefully before you hit the post button when you are writing about young kids who are not seasoned performers with thick skins. Imagine that you are writing directly to the kid before hitting that post button.

Granted, there are many children who can play the piano well (including I presumed Piano*Dad's son playing the Pathetique sonata 3rd movement on Youtube) but this is Adult Beginner's piano forum, maybe we should look at this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MwodoCzLjY

He is more representative of many of us here(or at least me) and though his playing may not be great,I am sure he gets a lot of satisfaction from it and I applaud his enthusiasm.

I thought the gentleman was really good. It seems he might have started lessons no more than a year ago and he'll get better.

Learning to play the piano for the majority of the population is not something that you achieve in a few weeks, it's takes time and patience to get really good.

The thing I hate about youtube are the young people who make those aweful criticsm like that kid who told that gentleman u sux my sister can play it better. grrrrrrrrr

On the video of the little boy, it's impressive to me that someone that young can make beautiful music like that despite the flaws. Since I'm new to this and I have no talent I would only wish I had some of that little kids talent.

I thought his movements at the piano were just his personal style of expression. He obviously goes into his sweet place or zone when he starts playing.

I agree completely. Although I hope one day I'll be able to play as technically skillfully as this I also hope that when that days come I'll have some musicality too. I really didn't feel he was into the music, just showing off what he can do.

Still, I suppose I shouldn't criticize people who are far more capable than me and not even half my age! Also I don't think you can expect too much musical maturity from a kid, I'd probably have done the same kind of thing if I could play at that age, and I might yet murder a few classics when I do get to that level!!

Wow, that girl was VERY impressive.

SilentKoala: Yes, we are serious about the 9 year old and Fur Elise.
for such young hands, that is in fact a challenge. I am 17, soon turning 18 and I find some parts still challenging. But that's probably because I hardly practiced it, but still, he played it technically well and that is impressive.

loly: Agree'd on the guy who made that rude comment.

In my own opinion, I find it terrible when parents brag and boast about their child and then sit their child down at the piano and get them to play so they can upload it onto YouTube and show the World how great their child is.
If you're going to make videos, clearly state that you are only doing this to get critisizm.

Now it's a different story if it's a video of the child at a recital, or performance, but the first kid I find is a prime example.
