I wanted to title this thread "what tools do you use to assess the suitability of a new (upright)piano to purchase if you can only play upto RSM grade 2?" but it wouldn't fit in the title box! \:\)
You see I can't really tell the difference between the Boston, Petrof (131) and Seiler (touch and sound), and whilst all three of these pianos will be 'fit for purpose' now, I am sure I will learn to appreciate the differences later as my ability develops. ie after i've spent my money.
Should I buy the cheapest, as I can't tell the difference anyway, or should I buy the dearest in the hope that someday I will 'find' something superior in the instrument. Thing is more expensive doesn't always mean better does it. For example, I would have to spend 22,000 to buy a new Steinway K, but I could buy a new Boesendorfer 131CL for 14,000. When I say 'could' buy one I actually mean I can't afford one but that's the going rate!

Sweep,
You may want to post this in the piano forum to get more advice. FWIW could you take along a friend who plays than you could just listen and see what differences you hear?

Thanks for your reply Cathy.
I have posted similar threads before on the main piano forum, I just thought i'd see if anyone as inexperienced as me had a different slant on things.

thanks again ...Sweep
