Hi;
I'm new here and just wanted to say "hello" and introduce myself.
I'm 39, have played electric guitar by ear for almost 30 years. I made one previous attempt to learn how to sight read with guitar but found it too frustrating to be a 'beginner' with an instrument I was already really good on. I've written and recorded rock/pop music playing most instruments (all but drums) and singing for several years. If you are interested you can stream or download (free) my music on my website:
www.LinusNYC.com I've wanted to learn how to play piano for years and finally started lessons in January with a great teacher. I have 1 hour lessons each Thursday. We are using the Alfred adult beginners book. I love it. So far so good.
We have an Ampico baby grand reproducing (player) piano. It's a bit difficult to play because the player mechanism is under the keyboard. I can't quite fit my knees under the keyboard so my posture is not quite textbook perfect. I sit a bit further back from the keyboard with my knees in front of the drawer that holds the mechanism just below the keyboard. At some point a different piano will be necessary but for now this one is just fine. And besides, the piano is my partners, he really likes it (loves playing piano rolls), and we don't have room for 2 pianos in the house.
I heard about the forum from the book Grand Obsession (just read it last week). It's nice to find a web forum so devoted to the instrument and being of service to one another.
