anyone know if this make/model is any good? I can't afford a wooden one and I like the look of this one. I know Wittner is a good make but this particular model- is it a good one?

My favorite metronome is the little electronic one I have that has a flashing light and an optional click. I've had it for years now, and still haven't needed to change the battery. It's not very loud, but I've grown to dislike the really loud ones that make you feel like you're being whipped (like my old plug-in Franz).

Those wind-up ones are not very accurate and are rather delicate. They always end up breaking or wearing out.

One of these guys might serve you better:

I have an in-built metronome on my electronic piano but it's very loud so I wanted to buy one of those old fashioned wooden ones but they are too expensive- I like the look of them- then I found the Taktell one which I find aesthetically pleasing wink

Before I part with cash I just want to know if anyone knows if this particular one is any good or not- I didn't really want an electronic one but thanks for taking the time to reply. I might end up having to consider an electronic one!?

I have this very metronome and it is fine. I also have electronic metronomes but strongly prefer the old mechanical style as I think the motion of the waving stick is much easier to follow that a little light that suddenly flashes out of nowhere. I use the Piccolo more than any other during everyday practice.

I used to have the winding type metronome, but now I have this one I bought on ebay for $20 after shipping.

On 2 AAA batteries, I can use it for months.

It has an LCD waving stick so it's easy to follow. There is a volume knob to adjust the loudness of that tick-tock sound. You can also hook up an earphone to it.

I actually have both - the electronic Korg and the Taktell and I prefer the Taktell, because it is louder, that stick is easier to follow and it has this scale that indicates how fast e.g. Allegro is. I like that very much and the clicks don't disturb me at all, they do not sound like these electronic alarm clocks, you know what I mean. Ah, plus my sister-in-law (concert pianist) highly recommended it to me. I only use the Korg to find out how fast such weird things as triplets are as compared to a third note laugh , it has a feature for that. And my piano is rather loud, it drowns the sound of the Korg even at the loudest volume but not the Taktell. Which doesn't mean that its clicks are even louder, just that they are somehow different (sexy???? eek )

Have fun, Patty

I have the same metronom, only mine is brown. I have had mine for about 15 years and I love it. It's even fallen on the ground on several occasions.
Like you, I prefer the mechanical ones far better than the digital ones. Like others have said, it has a nice distinctive sound and the motion of the swinger is helpful.

I have a Super Mini-Taktell. It worked great until I was practicing and needed a pencil one day so I had the hairbrained idea to use the weight from the metronome to write with (Believe it or not, it writes. Could it be lead? carbon?). Now my metronome ticks lopsided - perfect for practicing the tango.
