Happy Birthday, LVB-- true immortal and beloved genius of music!
Sophia Sophia! I beat you to the quick, I wished the great LVB Happy Birthday over on Pianist Corner. Alas, no one could be bothered, but my fault for posting it in a rather contentious thread. Otherwise, there is no other composer in my life whom I love so dearly. Beethoven is the ultimate... Bach, Mozart... sorry gentlemen, only a bit late to the Elysian Fields...

Thank you for the reminder, Sophia. Since 2003 LVB is also the New York Stock Exchange stock symbol for the Steinway Musical Instruments Corporation. The LVB symbol was chosen by management because of the Ludwig van Beethoven name association and because all possible combinations of "S" and "T" were taken. Due to the efforts of Franz Liszt, a monument to Beethoven can be visited in Bonn, Germany. http://guides.travelchannel.com/bonn/attractions/sightseeing/attractions-landmarks/248895.html Happy Birthday, Ludwig van Beethoven, musical giant of the classical era. [/b] Ah, Jason, I should have known you'd get there first! Well, it's all to the good. I have been listening to some of the late Sonatas: Opus 101, 109, 111. Absolutely sublime. There was no other like him. Sophia

My stepfather and my mom got married on LVB's birthday. Pretty clever of him I think. He's more likely to remember LVB's birthday than his anniversary! LOL Happy Birthday LVB.

Lisztener [/b] So - LVB then was a second choice - that would be considered somewhat insulting by a composer of lessor artistic merits. Maybe that was because Beethoven never played a Steinway - everyone knows he preferred the more brilliant sound of the 9 ft. Yamaha Concert Grand! :p And anyway there are only two possible combinations of S & T: ST or TS, so what were the chances? Regards (Happy B-Day LVB, but voting for Mozart as the best ever - sorry Luddy), JF
