Hi Dennis.
Pick up a copy of the Sunday Times, The New Yorker, and/or The Village Voice.
Check out the Brooklyn Acadamy of Music for some interesting concerts.
And welcome to the AB Forum!
Mel

Hi Dennis, There is a group of us from PW that get together periodically for a piano party. Keep your eyes out for notice of the next one--usually in the parties forum. We've gotten together in Boreum Hill, UWS, Greenpoint (that's where I'm at), Staten Island, etc. I might plan to have one this spring.
For music, Patelson's on 56th St. off 7th Avenue is good. They're right behind Carnegie Hall. The Juilliard bookstore is also good. I believe they are moving and were having a good sale going on recently; the sale may still be going on for all I know. Frank's music is also good but you can't browse there. You walk in to meet a counter right up front where you tell the salesperson what you what. For that reason I don't go there as often, but if you know what you want they have a large inventory from what I gather.
Check out the Juilliard school for recitals. A lot of the student concerts are free. In today's Times there's a little ad (in the Arts section I think) for 3 upcoming concerts, 2 of which are free. One is a piano recital and has a $10 or $15 admission.
Carnegie has a web site where you can see their schedule. It would be worth your time to check Alice Tully Hall also. Merkin Concert hall is another to check out.
Put yourself on the mailing (or email) list at Klavier Haus and Faust Harrison--they often have inexpensive recitals. So does the Yamaha Concert Artist place just off 5th Avenue. I think you can find them by googling. Steinway Hall too. They held a recital not too long ago sponsored by the Musicians Club of New York. You might call them for a schedule (212) 307-1990.
Mannes has a great International Piano Festival in the summer. Someone here at PW usually mentions it when it comes up. You can find out more about it at the Mannes web site. They have lots of recitals and master classes (which anyone can go and watch) during the festival.
Some other schools that may have recitals: Turtle Bay, Lucy Moses, Manhattan School of Music.
Also, the 92nd Street Y and The Metropolitan Museum of Art have concert schedules.
