I'm just sorry I quit accordion before they came out with Metallica sheet music for it. :p

Definition of a gentleman: a man who can play the accordion but doesn't.

How could I resist?

I once dated an accordion player. Her uncle also played accordion, and he gave her a word of advice: never leave an accordion in a parked car. Well, one day she forgot, and did that once, just for a few minutes. When she got back to the car, someone had broken in... and left another accordion. \:D

It's interesting that out of all the Metallica songs they could have picked, they went with Ride The Lightning!

(not that ANY of Metallica's catalogue is particularly suited to accordian, but it seems an odd pick!)

Good jokes above, but judging from the the abuse commonly heaped on it I think we might need an Accordian Anti-Defamation League - although the accordian has persisted down thru the years in spite of it (or thrived because of it).

I grew up in a small, dirty, hard-working, hard-playing, hard-drinking steel-making town in central PA, where people came from many different parts of the world to find work. The town is still know as "the melting pot of PA".

Those who came from the old Yugoslavia (the Croatians and Serbians especially) loved dancing, both the native folk dances of their "home country" and in particular polkas. They formed many good "polka bands" always with the accordian as one of the main instruments. I spent many happy times at outdoor festivals and picnics and in various pubs and bars downing a few cold "adult beverages" and both listening and dancing to their lively and well-played music. It was irresistable stuff (the beverage and the music) and I came to love the sound of the accordian.

Much later I discovered to my delight the pulsating feel-good sound of Cajun and Zydeco music from the Louisiana area, which also prominently features the accordian (in various sizes and styles).

I'm even old enough (and bold enough) to admit that I also enjoyed watching the Lawrence Welk Show for many years, including the great accordian work of Myron Florin (and Welk himself occassionally).

My DP has an accordian "voice" which I use once in awhile just to entertain myself and bring back some old memories.

Long live the accordian!

Regards, JF

Thanks Lisztener! But the correct reaction is:

I wonder who posted this video of Monika when she used to perform under the name Zoe? :p

Thanks for that link, LisztAddict. It was the first time in my life I had ever associated the words "accordion" and "sexy" in the same sentence. \:D What a hoot!!

p.s. One should never sit on one's accordion, especially when you're wearing a minidress. The bellows can pinch you in rather sensitive portions of your anatomy, if you get my drift. ;\)

This one is not about accordion, but same piece of music and equally "sexy". \:D

May I first state that I enjoy listeneng to both instruments from time-to-time.

Now, disclaimer done:

What's the definition of perfect pitch? Being able to hit the bagpipes in the dumpster with your accordian on the first try.

I had a feeling it was going to be what it was, as soon as you said "same piece of music" and "sexy".

I love Piazzolla!

Bach's Toccata BWV565:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmTG9wTfrzk
(There was a more artful version by Dmitriev, now seemingly taken down from Youtube. I can send it to anyone wants it...)

By the way, what options does an accordion offer for pipe-organ-like registration ?
I have some German folk-style training material which has a recurring sign, a circle divided in 3 horizontal bands, with dots up, down, left and right...

It depends on the accordion, ROMagister. Cheaper ones may have only 2 or 3 registers. My DaVinci electric accordion ( ) had 6, ranging from bass to piccolo, and there were better accordions that had a lot more.

Another version - not quite so sexy, but interesting instrumentation and well done:
