Dampp-Chaser Pad sizing

My tuner/technician sent me some pads in the mail, so I can change them on my own as necessary. Out of the bag, they're too long for the tank, or so it seems, but when I took out the old ones he had put them in with all the slack.
That didn't look right to me, but what do I know. I did some searching on the net, and the only hint I found was to 'cut them to size', but no indication what size means.
So, what's the right way to size the pads?
I have a U-1 upright, and a combo system, that's been working fine for now five years. Just put in the fourth set of pads ever. For lack of info, I just cut them shy of the tank bottom.
Thanks,
Sebastian

S, when you take them out of the bag, they are too long. Take one out and unfold it, then cut it in half . That is the right length.

Thanks for your input. I guess that would make the pads about as long as the contacts, right?

S, use 30" or full length for tall vertical humidifiers. Cut in half 15" for universal, grand, or short tank humidifiers.

Thanks. That should cover it.
So, do you own a 214cm Bösendorfer?
Or is that just your favorite instrument?

I own a new Bösendorfer 214. My favorite is the 275.
