Help- I own a Petrof grand which is about 10 years old. Several strings have broken recently, and my piano tuner has been able to replace all of them except for the last one which we recently discovered. Our tuner says that he needs the broken string in order to replace it, and for whatever reason, we cannot find the string! He says he cannot replace it without the broken string, and he does not have ideas where we should turn next. There is no longer a Petrof dealer in town (Columbus, Ohio). Any ideas? Thanks so much for any thoughts.

Is this a bass( copper wound) string, or a plain steel treble string? If this is a bass string, the manufacturer will be able to provide a replacement. I'd also get another tech to work on your piano, because he/she should know that the manufacturer will have a replacement, or he/she could call Mapes Piano String Co. at 423 543-7738. All he/she would need to do to get a bass string replacement is give them make, model, serial #, and the string #. Mapes has the scale sticks for thousands of piano scales, and I know they have them for Petrof scales.
