I've been playing for almost 11 years now (classically trained), but I LOVE to compose and play popular music. Where do I go now? I want to make a career out of performing, but where do I go now? I am 18, a college freshman, and majoring in Piano Performance.

Here are some pictures, and resumes about myself:

Any tips on where to go, who to talk to, or anything on what I should do would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

Kyle

Kyle,

Have you considered talking to some of local studios to see if there is interest in letting you perform/sit on on some recording sessions. Doing some Studio work would allow your playing to be recorded on some demo-tapes and releases. This will start on you the path to having a prtfolio.

Since you like POP music, I'll assume you have already joined a local band (and if not then you should seriously consider it). Doing some local gigs also helps get your career started.

BTW:

Have you decided what musical path you wish to take? (Studio Musician, Classical Pianist, POP performer, Composer (Game music is becoming big business... This is where my son is leaning!)

If you are looking for some public performing experience and like to travel, the cruise industry is always looking for performers on short term contracts. This might interfere with you studies but maybe you could work a summer gig.

Hope this helps,

Rodney
