My piano teacher told me to get the one called 215, whatever that means. He thinks its either volume 2 or 3? Do any of you guys know?

I have about 10 or 12 Abersold albums (remember albums?) and a couple of CD's. It's a really good way to start the jazz learning process.

I wrote this elsewhere too, but it's important to realize not all abersolds are created equal. Some of the abersold recordings do rush quite a bit and it's not a habit you want to get into if you are just starting out. If you feel like you are doing well and all the sudden you find yourself struggling, chances are it's because the recording is speeding up.
I would avoid "All time standards "(with Foggy Day&Speak low) for that reason. IMO I feel like the drummer is too busy and doing too many fills and the articulation of the bass player isn't that strong, which contributes the songs speeding up quite a bit(i.e Speak low and A foggy day).
I was listening to Vol.70. With Tyrone Wheeler on bass right now. I agree that Tyrone Wheeler is great, his intonation and articulation is swinging. It seems like they played with a relaxed feel for the whole album, which is great. IMO some of the bass players in abersold sounds a little too flat.. there is no sense of articulation and I don't get a strong sense of swing feel from them.

My piano teacher told me to get the one called 215, whatever that means. If your teacher actually told you this, I would be worried. I would ask her/him to be more specific and accurate. If you took it upon yourself to "transpose" ii - V - I into 215, I would likewise be worried, and the same advice would apply. Ed
