I love the Mark Hayes Christmas arrangements in his book "Well-Tempered Christmas". There's a jazz waltz, a gospel arrangement of "Rise Up Shepherd & Follow", and a couple of ballads ("O Little Town of Bethlehem" and "Away in a Manger"). I use these at church gigs & parties, and people love them!

The best I can suggest and it is very good is Jingle Bells arranged and played by Thomas (Fats) Waller. Even some 'stride' in it.....brilliant.

I just got the Vince Gauraldi Xmas tunes--"A Charlie Brown Christmas"--and those arrangments are terrific.
More generally, I think "A Christmas Song" has a wonderfully rich basic chord progression. Jazzed up, so much the better.

Here's an interesting piano backing track you might like. It's my wife playing the tune, The Man With The Bag. http://www.sampletekk.com/proddemos/WG/ManWithTheBag-WG.mp3 This version strips away the vocals and percussion from the commercial version that's on I-Tunes to better expose the piano track. It kind of reminds me of JPJ in the left hand against a Fats-styled right. Howard

I am still thinking about my reply to this timely thread... but will give this thread a bump anyway so it don't get buried down there.
