Is anyone really familiar with his music and good ways to perform it? Here we go...

Last semester I played The Alcotts from his Concord Sonata. That went pretty well and suited me perfectly. My teacher is excited (if that's a strong enough word) that I am interested in Ives. Now she's considering having me play a piece for voice and piano. The Housatonic at Stockbridge. I've looked through the music and it seems pretty playable, but the right hand is supposed to play what the orchestral strings played in the original piece. It's just eighth notes, but they have nothing to do with the tonality of the piece itself, and is supposed to be almost inaudible.

Now that I've run through all that, does anyone have any advice of how I can best play this? Those notes are also optional, so I can maybe try them at a later date, but I haven't sat down with my teacher yet to go over it.

Thanks!

I was wondering because he's 20th century. I'll cross-post this then. Thanks.
