Hi there,
I am a new forum member. I have a Grade 6 ABRSM qualification but I have not been playing a piano for long. I would like to ask whether there is a way to compose nice and elaborate accompaniment for the left hand? Many a time I played the songs in a "fake" book but I could not make nice accompaniment, besides playing out the chords. Please advice.

Thanks a lot!

You can walk bass in the left hand. Playing chords, however is more practical for when playing in a jazz ensemble.

The best accompaniment is one which mixes bass, some simple chords (try some root+7th voicings). Play sparsely, but very rhythmically accurate and you'll get that really full sound without having to play many notes.

Yep...you can try walking bass lines

You can also try...
arpeggiated chords
rolling 10ths
boom chucks
stride patterns

all will make your playing more interesting

remember its all about timing

There are some great resources at :-
learnjazzpiano.com for free (however I tipped the pianist...I thought it was only fair ;\) )

Also pianomagic.com which is a pay for piano site but, worth every cent IMHO \:D

Hi Seaside Lee and GregJazz,
Thank you so much for your advice. I will try on it. More suggestions, anybody?

Thanks \:\)
